The Flare S6 has a premium look, it could be mistaken for a midrange device. Its available in black, gold, silver and the limited edition red. We got a chance to get the limited edition red color for review.
The front has 5.2-inch HD IPS display with a 2.5D glass, on top are 13-megapixel OmniVision OV12830 selfie camera, LED flash and earphone speaker. While at the bottom are the usual capacitive buttons. There is already a pre-installed screen protector just removed the outer plastic cover.
It has polycarbonate plastic body with rounded corner and a slim profile, It feels nice to hold. There’s are faux antenna lines on both on top and bottom and the back cover is removable just take some care in removing it because you might damage the back cover.
At the back are the dual sim cards slots and a dedicated slot for microSD card, it also has fingerprint scanner at the back painted in red and the 13-megapixel Sony IMX135 rear camera. At the bottom is the Type-C port which is better compared to micro USB port and that is usually available in midrange smartphone only.
The Flare S6 sports a 5.2-inch IPS display almost bezel-less to the sides. It has 16:9 aspect ratio with HD resolution (1280 x 720 pixels) at 282 ppi density.
The colors are nice a bit saturated than usual, watching YouTube videos and movies on this device is good. It has nice decent brightness level good enough for everyday use even on outdoor places.
This budget smartphone is packed with Quad-core MediaTek MT6737 processor clocked at 1.3GHz with 2GB RAM, 16GB internal storage and 2600mah battery. Compared to other brands with the same price point the Flare S6 is the best choice.
It can handle multitasking easy, thanks to the new and improved CherryOS with better app and memory management. Running multiple apps such as social media apps is no problem you can easily switch between apps.
For benchmark, it scored 28031 on AnTuTu, PCMark – 2016 (Storage), 3113 (Work 1.0 which is better compared to other budget smartphones.
We tried online games like Pokemon, Clash of clans and mobile legends on this device and it works amazing and since it supports 4G LTE connection with (700MHz) we got a faster mobile data connection.
Cherry Mobile finally develop their own custom UI for their smartphones. The new CherryOS features better app management system and other system enhancements to Android.
It comes with pre-installed local apps such as Cherry Fun Club, Cherry Prepaid, Chumslive Pro, CPlay, eWarranty Info Center and Movie Club. It also comes with Black-Tech utility apps like App Cleaner, Permissions, Privacy System, Heath Guard, and Avatar Master. There’s also Uber, Super AppLock, Super Share, Clone, Freezer, Speedup, Quick Touch, and 360 Security. Now that’s a lot of bloatware, it eats up almost 700MB of internal storage. Now from 16GB storage, there is now only 8GB available left.
The UI is easy to use and there is app drawer, the apps are listed alphabetically as default. Customizing it is easy using the Themes app. The quick menu can be accessed by swiping the top of the screen going down.
Flare S6 is equipped with great cameras, a 13-megapixel Sony IMX135 rear camera sensor and 13-megapixel OmniVision OV12830 selfie camera.
The camera app comes with options for different modes – photo (normal), beauty, including FaceCute (real-time facial effects like in Samsung S8 camera), bokeh, portrait and expert mode for manual settings.
It can take decent pictures, in low light it still can capture good images but its noticeable the shutter delay when taking pictures in low light places.
