Unboxing – Packaging and Contents
The Kata L1 packaging comes in a box with blue and red color combination, its the same as most of Kata’s product line-up. The front has the company’s logo and the L1 branding while at the back is information about the product.
Opening the box will first reveal the L1 device, while the accessories like charger, USB cable, in-earphones, SIM ejector tool, documentation and warranty card are placed in a nice compartment in smaller boxes. Kata was nice to include these nice looking accessories with solid built quality.

The Kata L1 comes in a combination of plastic and metal body construction, it has a big frame with a smooth finish and comes in gold color. It has a nice design with a huge body and surprisingly its comfortable to hold maybe because of the slight curve at the back, but you still need both hands when using it.
The front has 6-inch HD IPS display with 1280 x 720 resolution at 245 ppi, no mention of Gorilla Glass protection on display. On top are the selfie camera, LED flash and mic while down below are the home button that is also the fingerprint scanner flanked by back and option capacitive buttons.
Turning at the back, the dual 13-megapixel camera is positioned at the upper left side and beside it is the LED flash. The company logo is position at the upper center and below.
On the right side is the power button and above it is volume rocker while on the other side is the SIM tray (need the ejector pin to open).
At the bottom is micro USB port the center flanked by speaker and microphone. The 3.5mm audio jack is positioned at the top.
The Kata L1 is a nice looking device with a large screen that is great for multimedia use. Its easy to hold and does not slip easily on hands, but you still need to use both hands to use it and if you got small hands.
Its powered by 1.3GHz MediaTek MT6580A quad-core processor which is good enough to run some light games and social media apps. But it only has 1GB RAM and 8GB internal storage (only 4.64GB is available for user) now that is not enough to install popular social media apps like Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and Pinterest just to name a few.
What more if you are going to install games like Arena of Valor and other popular MMORPG games. Good thing is it supports extra storage via microSD card up to 256GB capacity.
Out of the box, our initial experience with the device is nice, the screen is responsive to touch and basic functions like SMS and making calls works well. Watching our fave TV Shows using the pre-loaded Netflix app works well with its large display.
For security, it supports PIN, Pattern, Swipe, Password, and fingerprint. The fingerprint scanner is quick to unlock the device, users only need a light touch on the home button and it unlocks instantly no need to press the power button.
It also supports gesture to control certain apps using the palm of your hands waving on the top of the display. You can answer incoming calls, take selfies, and more.
The main camera can take decent pictures but it seems to struggles to autofocus when used in dim light places. The selfie camera can take selfies that is good enough to share on your social media accounts.
The Kata L1 is a nice multimedia device, you can watch your favorite Movies or TV series using Netflix or iFlix, too bad it only has 1GB RAM so don’t expect to run multiple apps on this device and with the limited storage you might want to store all your downloaded apps on your microSD card.
For improvements, Kata could equip the L1 with at least 2GB RAM and 16GB storage and a better screen resolution for better performance. The Kata L1 is priced at Php4,999 and now available nationwide.
