OPPO was kind enough to lend us a review unit and were able to use it as our daily smartphone for the last few weeks and here’s our review of the OPPO A57.
Unboxing video of the OPPO A57
Design and Screen
OPPO A57 comes in metal unibody design, the review unit we got is matte black and it looks premium device with OPPO’s signature look, the front has 5.2-inch HD touch display, above the display is the 16-megapixel front-facing camera, while down below are the home button that is also a fingerprint scanner flanked by options and back capacitive buttons.
Speaking of the fingerprint scanner, this device has a fast and responsive scanner, enrollment for fingerprints is easy simply go to settings and look for “Fingerprint & Passcode” options, it can support up to 4 registered fingerprints.
The back of A57 has this nice matte black color and it just looks really nice, good thing it’s not a fingerprint magnet but easily gets smudges, it does not slip on hand easily and it just feels good to hold. The 13-megapixel rear camera is placed at the left top corner with LED flash and the band name on dead center.
Going to the left it houses the volume controls, while on the right side is the power button and also the SIM card slot. It has 3 slots configuration, so it supports 2x SIM card and 1x microSD card.
OPPO A57 has 5.2 Inch IPS HD screen with 1280 x 720 resolution, .5D curved glass at 282 pixels per inch and Gorilla Glass 4 to add some protection. It has good viewing angle while still remaining compact and easy to hold. Colors are vivid and viewing under the sun are also good just set the brightness to full.
Performance and features
What makes the A57 tick is what’s under the hood, it’s powered Octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 435 SoC with Adreno 505 for graphics, accompanied by 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage. For wireless, it comes with Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.1, FM radio, USB-OTG, and GPS. It supports 4G LTE connection for mobile data.
Out of the box, it runs on ColourOS 3.0 which is based on Android 6.0 Marshmallow which is a bit disappointing since this is a new device they should have at least have it running on Android 7 Nougat. But maybe the current version of Color OS is still not optimized to run on the latest Android OS. So I guess we’ll just have to wait for the ColorOS 3.1 to be released and hope that A57 will get it too.
On an average daily use, the A57 perform well using basic apps for social media networking and making calls and SMS functions. Playing light games is no problem with this device, playing Everwing is great but tends to get a little bit warm when using it for long period of time. Overall it performs well and with 3GB RAM keep things running smoothly.
One of the main selling points of the OPPO devices are in its front facing cameras and A57 is no exception, it sports 16-megapixel Sony IMX258 sensor selfie camera and 13-megapixel rear camera.
The 16-megapixel front camera has f 2.0 aperture and can record Full-HD videos. The camera apps include features such as time-lapse, panorama and beauty mode. While the rear camera is capable of taking some good pictures especially when outdoor.
A57 has a 2900mAh non-removable battery, and since it only has a 5.2-inch screen with only HD resolution it can easily get through the day with a full charge. We’re able to get at more than 9 hours on easy light use in a day. It does not support fast charging, so it takes a while for the battery to fully charge.
