The Samsung Galaxy C9 Pro is one of the very first smartphones to have a 6GB RAM. It was announced last April in the Philippine market. It features 6-inch Full HD Super AMOLED display and priced at Php27,990!
We got a chance to drive test this phablet size smartphone to see and test if the 6GB RAM does really make a difference in terms of performance. Here’s our hands-on review of Samsung Galaxy C9 Pro.
Design and Screen
Galaxy C9 Pro has a phablet size body with rounded corners, it has 6.0” Full HD Super AMOLED display. With smooth full metal unibody at only 6.9 mm in size and its thinner compared to OPPO F3 Plus.
The Super AMOLED screen on the C9 Pro looks really sharp and its easy on the eyes it has 1920 x 1080p pixels and high pixel density of 367ppi. Above the display is the 16-megapixel front facing camera and speaker while below is the home button that is also the fingerprint scanner and flanked by capacitive back and options button.
Going to the bottom are the USB Type-C connector at the center, 3.5mm audio jack, main microphone and the loud speaker.
At the right side of the C9 Pro are the power button, and two separate card tray, one for SIM card tray that supports (2)two nano-SIMs, while the other one is dedicated for microSD card for that extra storage needs.
Just like OPPO F3 Plus the C9 Pro has also antenna bands at the back, it has (3) three antenna strips at the top and another sets the bottom.
Performance and features
The Galaxy C9 Pro is powered by the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 653 Octa-core processor with clock speed of 1.95GHz, it has Adreno 505 for graphics with huge 6GB RAM and 64GB internal storage. For wireless connection, it comes with Wi-Fi 802.11 ac 2.4+5GHz, Bluetooth 4.2, NFC and 4G LTE connection for mobile data on both SIM card.
Out of the box, its running on Android 6.0 Marshmallow with very own Samsung skin on top and some featured apps like S Health and S Voice and it also comes with Microsoft productivity tools. No word yet if this device will get updated to the latest Android 7.0 Nougat.
The Galaxy C9 Pro is still a midrange device, with the Snapdragon 653 CPU and 6GB RAM this device is a performer. We’ve been using this device for more than 3 weeks and so far we are happy with its performance. Playing games such as NBA, Need for Speed, and even Injustice 2 is no problem, it performs well and the 6GB RAM is more than enough to keep running apps smoothly.
In terms of benchmarks the Galaxy C9 Pro got 79436 on AnTuTu while on 3DMark it got 941 and in PCMark it got 4356 on Work 1.0 test score.
Another main feature of the Galaxy C9 Pro is the camera, it comes with 16-megapixel camera on both rear and front with f/1.9 aperture and dual-tone LED flash on the main camera.
The camera app can be easily launched by simply pressing the home button twice, it also has quick launched icon when the display is locked. The camera app is easy to use and the main (rear) camera comes with phase detection autofocus (PDAF) for faster focus on the subject, its capable of video recording up to 1080p. While the front camera is great for taking selfies since it comes with large f/1.9 aperture and dual-tone LED flash which is great in taking perfect selfies.
With a large display, it should also come with large battery capacity good thing the C9 Pro comes with 4,000mAh battery and with USB Type-C it supports fast charging with the included charger adapter. On a full charge, we’re able to get more than 8 hours of use on a normal day that includes connecting to mobile data to check email, social media accounts even play some casual online games, make some calls, a lot of SMS and take a lot of pictures. But when we are using it as our multimedia device to watch streaming movies, TV Shows and play NBA, Injustice 2, MCS 5 and War Robots were able to gain the battery in less than 5 hours. Good thing this device charge the battery fast.
