Vivo one of the leading brand name when it comes to smartphones that are designed for taking that “Perfect Selfie”. Recently they launched a more affordable version of their popular V5 series. The Vivo V5 Lite comes with a budget friendly price but still has a 5-5-inch display and 16-megapixel selfie camera with LED flash.
Design and Built
The V5 Lite design looks and feels similar to V5, with a hint of design from iPhone. The body has a plastic build this is to make it more affordable. The front has 5.5-inch display with HD resolution with 2.5D glass but no mention if it got screen protection.
Below the display are capacitive Home flanked by option and back button (no physical home button compared to V5) and it does not have fingerprint sensor which is a bit disappointing since it should be standard features by now and you can even but smartphones priced below 6K with this feature.
The bottom of the device has the micro USB port at the center, 3.5mm audio jack, microphone, and speaker. At the back is the rear facing camera is flushed left beside the LED flash and the brand logo at the center.
All the buttons can be found on the right side of the power button and the volume controls, while on the left side is the hybrid SIM tray with this setup you need to choose if you want to use the second slot for extra storage or another SIM card.
Unboxing the Vivo V5 Lite
For the shooter, this device comes with a 13-megapixel rear camera with LED flash while the front got only 16-megapixel sensor compared to V5 that has a 20-megapixel shooter.
13-megapixel f/2.0 w/ LED flash Rear Camera
16-megapixel f/2.0 with softlight flash front camera
The V5 Lite Selfie Camera
Compared to the V5 Plus with Dual Selfie camera, the V5 Lite only has a 16-megapixel sensor on its selfie camera but that does not mean it cannot take good selfies.
The V5 Lite camera app packs a simple UI design, with a couple of beautification features like buffing to make your skin more smooth, Skin tone to make your skin fairer, and whitening for that whiter skin. It comes with different types of filters, you play with it before you pictures. Its also capable of recording videos at 1080p resolution.
On with the display, the V5 Lite comes with 5.5-inch HD panel (1280 x 720 resolution) with 2.5D curved glass at 267 pixels per inch.
The quality of the display with 267ppu produce a good image, its not as sharp compared to a screen with Full HD display but good enough for daily use, it has IPS panel so viewing angle is also good.
Out of the box, the V5 Lite is running on Android 6.0 Marshmallow with Funtouch OS 3.0 which is Vivo’s own custom brew on all of their devices.
The UI on Funtouch OS are clean and simple with a flat icon for the application, there is no app drawer support so everything is on the desktop you just need to swipe left or right to see all you installed apps. Speaking of apps, this device comes with only a couple of pre-installed with standard Google’s apps, WPS Office, and UC Browser which is good.
The quick access menu can be found by swiping up from the bottom display. From here you easily access the Connection settings, brightness and much more.
It terms of storage, it comes with standard 32GB ROM, with only 22.81GB left for user storage, but not to worry since it support microSD card up to 128GB capacity if you need more storage.
Under the hood, the V5 Lite packs 1.5GHz 64-bit MediaTek MT6750 Octa-core CPU with Mali-T860 GPU for graphics and 3GB RAM for that multitask needs.
Gaming performance, we played Mobile Legends, Need for Speed No Limits and Pokemon Go without any major problems, there are some occasional hiccups but you can definitely play good games on this device, not those heavy graphics game thou.
In terms of Benchmarks here are V5 scores:
- AnTuTu: 41,629
- Vellamo: 2,224 (Multicore)
- PCMark: 3,483
The V5 Lite comes with WiFi, Bluetooth for wireless connection, it also comes with A-GPS for location, and it supports USB-OTG for transferring files you just need to enable this function everytime you need to use it.
For phone function, it has hybrid SIM card tray that means you can use the 2nd slot for either another SIM or microSD card. Making calls and using the SMS features in V5 Lite is pretty much standard, the default SMS app is good enough to use.
