Vivo V5 Plus was launched in the Philippines last January 2017. The first selfie-centric smartphone that features a dual front camera, a 20-megapixel front camera, co-engineered with Sony, and a secondary 8-megapixel front camera.
The Vivo V5 Plus is the latest flagship smartphone from Chinese multinational company that designs, develops, and manufactures smartphones. It is also the first smartphone to feature a dual front camera. We got a chance to play with this device for a short period of time and here’s our unboxing and first-hand experience.
Vivo V5 Plus Unboxing
Unlike most of the smarphones in the market that has compact packaging, the V5 Plus comes in a flat square box. Once opened the V5 Plus is in usual protective plastic packaging, while the accessories included are paper materials, charger, USB cable, earphones, protective case, SIM ejector pin and it even comes with free screen protector.
Vivo V5 Plus First Impressions
Just like any other product of Vivo, the V5 Plus has unibody design made from metal alloy. In terms of design, it looks similar to iPhone 7 with rounded corners and sleek body. The antenna lines break up the expanse of gold on the rear, power button and volume rocker on right side, at the left side is where the SIM card tray.
The front there’s a 5.5-inch display with Full HD IPS screen (1920 x 1080 resolution), 2.5D curved glass at 401 ppi which looks really clear and crisp and protected by Gorilla Glass 5.
At the top of the screen is the dual camera a 20-megapixel front camera, co-engineered with Sony, a secondary 8-megapixel sensor and softlight flash. Below the screen is the home button that is also the fingerprint sensor and flanked by back and option capacitive buttons.
The back of V5 Plus has the 16-megapixel camera that can shoot really good pictures with LED flash at the top left side corner and the company’s brand name at upper center.
Below the device is micro USB port, 3.5mm jack, and speakers.
Powering the V5 Plus is 2.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 octa-core processor with 4GB RAM and 64GB storage. Once turn-on is running on Android 6.0 Marshmallow with Funtouch OS 3.0, it looks similar to OPPO’s ColorOS in terms of overall look and feel of the user interface.
Since this is the first smartphone to have a dual front camera, it’s the first features that we tested, and true enough the selfie camera of this device can do wonders on taking selfies. Some of its camera features are the “bokeh” effect and face beauty effect.

The V5 Plus is a good looking smartphone, it is a well-designed device. It looks and feels slimmer compared to other smartphones in its category. The screen looks really clear and crisp, the Funtouch OS is easy to use and responsive to touch commands.

With the name “Perfect Selfie” the V5 Plus is a great all-in-one device with premium design, clear and crisp 5.5-inch display, fast and responsive CPU and user interface with a good amount of storage and average battery life. Overall it’s an impressive device with a great camera and with the “bokeh” effect taking selfie is now more fun.
