Vivo’s selfie smartphone is getting a stronger presence in the country. The Vivo V5s is the latest in the selfie-centric smartphone and an upgrade to V5, sporting a 20-megapixel selfie camera and 64GB storage.
Vivo V5s is the successor of the popular Vivo V5 with some upgrades. It’s also more expensive with 2K more added to its price tag. We got a chance to play with the V5s and here’s our experience with it.
Here’s our unboxing of Vivo V5s
The V5s has 5.5-inch HD touch display at 1280 x 720 resolution topped with 2.5D curved and Gorilla Glass for protection. It already comes with screen protection already pre-installed.
Looking at the top of the display is Vivo’s 20-megapixel front-facing camera with a f/2.0 aperture which is proven to take some really good selfie pictures. Below the display is the home button that also acts at the fingerprint scanner flanked by capacitive option and return button.
Looking at the sides the power (on/off) button and volume controls are on the right side while at the left side is where the SIM card tray.
The microUSB port, speaker, mic and the 3.5mm audio jack can be found at the bottom, while the top is clean which is a good design since all the cables like microUSB cable and earphones can be plug-in at the bottom part of the V5s.
Going to the back, the 13-megapixel camera, and LED flash is at the upper left side and the company brand Logo at the center. The V5s has unibody metal build, it resembles iPhone look, it has a wide body measuring 7.55mm wide and 154g not too heavy.
Out of the box, V5s is running on the latest Funtouch OS version 3.0. The UI still looks a lot like iOS in terms of apps icon looks, it does not support app drawer, so swiping left and right to see all the installed apps.
Unlike any traditional Android, the quick menu can be accessed by swiping from the bottom of the screen going up, while the notification is still at the top and can be accessed be swiping the top of the screen going down. Fountouch OS looks really clean and responsive, navigating the settings is also easy to use.
The V5s is powered by 1.5GHz Octa-core MediaTek MT6750 CPU with 4GB of RAM and Mali-T860MP2 for graphics processing. It has 64GB (52GB is user available) of internal storage that can be expanded up to 256GB via a microSD card.
With the MediaTek MT6750 CPU, it easily handles the daily routine task for daily normal use. You can easily switch between apps and keep them in the background for later you. The V5s is also great for playing games, such as the latest NBA 2K17, Need for Speed, Mortal Kombat and other graphics intensive games.

The V5s comes with Hi-Fi Music AK4376 dedicated audio chip so what does this mean? Listening to music using good earphones will be far more enjoyable compared to other smartphones.
The fingerprint sensor on the V5s is located at the home button just like the other V series. The fingerprint scanner works really well, once your finger touches the home button it takes around 0.2-second to unlock it, now that is fast.
The v5s screen has 2.5D Corning Gorilla Glass 3 and it also comes with pre-installed screen protector.
The V5s has a 3,000mAh non-removable battery, based on our daily use we can get about hours of battery life on a single charge, usage includes connecting to 4G LTE data connection while on the road, listening to Spotify, constant connection to WiFi at the office, checking and updating social media accounts, watching YouTube videos during break time and playing some games every now and then.
The V5s’ has 20-megapixel selfie camera sensor which is great in taking selfies and groufies. The light-sensing area is larger than usual at 1/2.78 inch. This allows more light to come in which in turn enhances photo brightness.
It features the improved Selfie Soft light that is now even softer, making one’s face and skin tone look even brighter even in poor lighting conditions, no matter what time of the day. It also uses Face Beauty 6.0, a face-retouching and skincare tool that makes your selfies look even more radiant.
There’s also a 13-megapixel rear camera with f2.2 aperture and an ultra-high-definition mode that can render stunning ultra HD images of up to 52 megapixels.

The Vivo V5s is priced at Php14,990 which is more expensive compared to V5, but the V5s looks slimmer it also feels more comfortable to hold for a 5.5-inch smartphone it has a minimalistic and elegant design, with 4GB RAM and 64GB internal storage you can run more apps and take more selfies with this phone. Now that’s a good deal if you ask us. The 20-megapixel selfie camera it great in taking perfect selfies and even groufies. The Face Beauty filter really works and makes selfies more fun.
