The Vivo V9 is the company’s first device to feature a screen with a 19:9 aspect ratio display with a notch and a vertically aligned dual camera setup at the back.

Unboxing
The retail box of the new V9 comes in the usual Vivo packaging. Inside the box, it includes the V9 device, charger, micro USB cable, earphones, an ejector PIN, and a clear case.

Design
The V9 has a slim and sexy profile at only 7.9 mm in size. It has a unibody design with a nice curve at the back and rounded corners, which make it easy and comfortable to hold.

It sports a 6.3-inch 19:9 Full HD+ IPS Capacitive Display with a 90% screen-to-body ratio, and a notch at the top of the screen, the notch is where the selfie camera is placed.

At the back of the v9 is the 16-megapixel + 5-megapixel dual camera that is vertically aligned, its position being at the upper leftmost with an LED flash below. While the fingerprint sensor is at the center for easy access, below it is the company’s logo.

Connectivity can be found at the bottom, the micro USB port, the 3.5mm audio port, and the speaker grill and microphone.

On the left side is the SIM slot, which supports two SIM cards and one microSD card, while on the right side are the power button and volume controls.

Overall, the V9 is a well-designed smartphone with a very slim profile. It looks really premium. Even with the free case, you can easily grip it on your hand.

Hands-on Experience Vivo V9
Out of the box, the V9 is running the latest Android 8.1.0 Oreo with FunTouch 4.0, which is the company’s latest update on their own custom Android skin.

The 6.3-inch display on the v9 looks really sharp and nice, and the brightness level is good enough to use when outdoors.

In terms of performance, this device is powered by a 2.2 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 626 CPU paired with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage and has AI Smart Engine which prioritizes processing and storage resources for an optimized experience.

Below are benchmark apps and how the Vivo V9 performs:
AnTuTu: 85571
Geekbench 4 Single Core: 912
Geekbench 4 Multi-Core: 4148
3D Mark Sling Shot Extreme Open GL: 306
3D Mark Sling Shot Extreme Vulkan: 298

With its large screen, this device is great for gaming, We tried playing Starwars Heroes, Last Day on Earth Survival, Need for Speed, AOV, and Tekken games. Playtime was great, with very minimal lag. Playing online while on the go is no problem since it supports 4G LTE connections, so we’re able to play almost anywhere, anytime.

Battery
The v9 comes with a 3150mAh non-removable battery. We’re a bit disappointed with it, we were expecting it to have at least a 4000 mAh battery since it has a large display with Full HD+ resolution.

We were able to get 7 hours of use on one full charge. We used it as our main media, gaming, and communication device. Charging it with the included charger, we were able to charge the battery from 10% to 100% in less than 3 hours (2 hours and 33 minutes). which is not bad at all.

Dual Rear Camera and 24MP Selfie Camera
The V9 sports a 16-megapixel + 5-megapixel dual rear camera with phase detection auto-focus and dual-LED flash and a 24-megapixel selfie camera with soft-light LED flash configuration.

Vivo V9

The camera app on V9 is packed with features, it supports Professional (manual), Panorama, Face Beauty, Photo, Videos, and AR Stickers modes. For the settings, you can configure the Timer, camera display (Normal, full, and Square), shutter functions (touch, voice, and Palm), Storage, Watermark, sound, and geolocation tag.

Verdict
The Vivo V9 is more than a selfie-centric device, it's also a great multimedia device. The notch is well-placed, and it does not really bother us when playing our favorite games. The large 6.3-inch Full HD+ all-screen display looks really awesome. For its price of ₱17,990, this could be your next smartphone if you are looking for a great device with a really nice selfie camera and a slim design with a lot of storage space that can perform well as your daily driver.
