Vivo Valentine's-day

Selfie is the name of the game, its now the number one feature that most users ask when buying a new smartphone. Consumers demand that smartphones today must have a great front facing camera for that flawless selfie experience. Vivo’s latest flagship the V7+ is equipped with a 24-megapixel front camera with soft lamp flash great for taking selfies and groufies.

The new V7+ is priced at Php17,990 its features 5.99” All Screen Display and more. We got a chance to review this selfie-centric smartphone and here’s our hands-on experience.

The V7+ is one of the first to feature 18:9 screen and in term of design it comes in small frame for a device with 5.99” display, its easy to hold on hands weighing only 160 grams. It has a unibody design with metal frame and hard plastic material at the back. The back cover is a bit fingerprint magnet, good thing it comes with a free case. It has a nice finish look with nice curved corners and a premium appeal.

The display has 5.99-inch IPS LCD FullView display (1440 x 720) pixels, there are no capacitive buttons only on-screen ones. At the top is the 24-megapixel front-facing camera, mic and LED notification light. The 3.55mm audio headphone jack, micro-USB port and speakers are all at the bottom.

Now going to the right are the volume and power buttons are placed, while on the left is the SIM tray that can accommodate two(2) nano-SIM cards and a microSD card that can support up to 256GB now that’s a lot of storage options.

Now, the back of the V7+ is really simple, it has the 16-megapixel camera at top side with LED flashlight, in the center is the fingerprint scanner and the company logo.

One of the many features of the V7+ is the screen like we said it features an almost 6-inch display with HD+ resolution at 84.4% screen to body ratio and a pixel density count of 269ppi, as a result it looks like its almost bezel-less and feels like your holding a 5.5-inch smartphone with a larger display.

Sure the V7+ only has 720 x 14400-pixel density but not to worry the screen is sharp and has good color quality. Playing games is definitely great on this device, we tried some new cool games like Gladiator Heroes, Zombie Frontier 3, Snipers vs Thieves, Guns of Boom works well and it looks good on 18:9 screen. Watching videos on YouTube also is great, just stick to HD format and your good.

Its All about the Camera

If you love taking selfies and groufies, the V7+ is the right smartphone for you. This device comes with 24-megapixel f/2.0 front camera with Moonlight Glowlight.

Sure it does not have dual front cameras but this device comes with its own exclusive Face Beauty algorithm, that can make clear photos and natural facial enhancement. It also has Portrait Mode that allows you to take selfies with a beautifully blurred background.

The selfies we shot using the V7+ are among the best we’ve seen so far, skin tone and blemishes are enhanced making one selfies really beautiful and for sure people who do a lot of selfies will love this device.

The main camera comes with rear 16-megapixel sensor supports PDAF, it does take decent pictures in places with enough lights, colors are also well presented, it can also be used in places with low light, for video recording its capable up to 1080p with good quality but no stabilisation so just make sure you got steady hands when shooting in video mode.

Powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 SoC with eight Cortex A53 cores with Adreno 506 GPU, 4GB RAM and 64GB internal storage. The V7+ performs well and handle handles multitasking and games smoothly, We’re able to switch from one app to another without any issues.

In terms of benchmarks, the V7+ managed to get a score of 56,134 points in AnTuTu and 32fps in GFXbench. Out of the box its running on Android Android 7.1.2 with Funtouch OS 3.2, there were 2 major updates during our test, this includes the activation of the Face ID security features.

The Color OS is inspired by iOS of Apple with app icon and UI elements look similar to the latest Apple OS. Control center can be activated by swiping up from the bottom of the screen, there is no app drawer so all of you apps can be accessed by swiping left or right.

Based on experience, Color OS is responsive to touch and there is a lot of customization available and features available, one of them is the Smart split, in which you can run two separate apps at the same time like you can watch YouTube while updating your status on Facebook. Another one is App Clone, where you can have 2 accounts on same social media apps. Currently, it supports WhatsApp, Line, BBM, WeChat, Zalo and Viber.

In terms of security, the V7+ supports fingerprint, face ID and password, for the fingerprint it can unlock this device fast, really fast and good thing that the sensor is now at the back so its more easier to access. The face ID is interesting and enrolling a Face is easy and simple, you just need to follow the instruction just make sure you are in a place with a good backlighting otherwise it will not work. Using it also requires a good light to identify your face. So I guess we will stick to fingerprint and password for a while.

Battery Life

Powering the V7+ is an of 3255 mAh non-removable battery that is good for a day of regular use. It does not support fast charging but the included charger can charge the V7+ from 10% to about 60% battery in about an hour so its still good enough.

Using it as our daily device, we managed to get around 9 hours of battery life in a normal use, but when used as a gaming and our multimedia device the battery life dramatically decrease. Overall we’re happy with the battery performance.

Its great for watching videos and playing games, it has a premium look and it has a slim and sleek profile and easy to hold.

The 24-megapixel selfie camera on the V7+ is really one the of best for taking selfies and the back camera is also great for taking pictures. The triple SIM slot more than welcome, since now you can use both SIM card slot and still be able to add a microSD card for extra storage.
