OPPO A57

The OPPO A57 is the company's latest Selfie Expert smartphone; it was introduced in China last year. It features a 5.2-inch HD display, a Snapdragon chipset, 3GB of RAM, and a 16-megapixel Sony IMX258 sensor selfie camera.

Design and Display
OPPO A57 features a metal unibody design; the review unit we received is matte black and has a premium look.

The front has a 5.2-inch HD touch display, and a 16-megapixel front-facing camera, and below the display is a home button that doubles as a fingerprint scanner, flanked by options and back capacitive buttons.

Speaking of the fingerprint scanner, this device has a fast and responsive scanner, registration of fingerprints is easy, just navigate to the settings and look for “Fingerprint & Passcode” options, and it can support up to four registered fingerprints.

With its matte black finish, A57 isn't a fingerprint magnet, but it's still prone to getting smudges. It doesn't slip out of your hands easily, and it just feels comfortable to hold. There's a 13-megapixel rear-facing camera with an LED flash on the left side, with the band name dead center.

The volume control is located on the left side, while the power button and SIM card slot are on the right. It has three slots, so it can accommodate two SIM cards and one microSD card.

The OPPO A57 has a 5.2-inch IPS HD display with a resolution of 1280 by 720 pixels, 5D curved glass with 282 pixels per inch, and Gorilla Glass 4 for added protection. It provides a wide viewing angle while staying portable and compact. Just adjust the screen's brightness to its maximum level, and the colors will be brilliant and outside viewing will also be adequate.

Performance and Features
The A57 is powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 435 SoC with Adreno 505 for graphics, along with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. It includes Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.1, FM radio, USB-OTG, and GPS for wireless connectivity. It supports 4G LTE mobile data connection.

It comes pre-installed with ColourOS 3.0, which is based on Android 6.0 Marshmallow, which is a bit disappointing given that this is a new device and they should have it running at least Android 7 Nougat. But perhaps the current version of Color OS is not yet tuned to function on the most recent Android operating system. So I guess we'll have to wait for ColorOS 3.1 to be released and hope that A57 will receive it as well.

On a daily basis, the A57 performs admirably with basic apps for updating social media, making phone calls, and SMS functions. Playing light games is not a problem on this device, and playing Everwing is also excellent, however, it tends to get a little warm after prolonged use. Overall, it works nicely, and its 3GB of RAM ensures that everything runs smoothly.

Camera

A major selling point of OPPO devices is its front-facing cameras, and the A57 is no exception; it features a 16-megapixel selfie camera with a Sony IMX258 sensor and a 13-megapixel rear camera.

The 16-megapixel front-facing camera has an aperture of f 2.0 and can record Full-HD video. The camera app supports time-lapse, panoramic, and beauty mode. While the back camera is capable of generating high images, especially when used outdoors.

Battery Life
The A57 packs a 2900mAh non-removable battery, despite it having a 5.2-inch screen with only HD resolution. The A57 can easily last a whole day on a single charge. For light use, you can get more than 9 hours of screen time. It does not support fast charging, so it takes a while to fully charge the battery.

Final Thoughts
In conclusion, the OPPO A57 is a good option for those who want a smartphone with a great front-facing camera; you will definitely like taking selfies and group photos with it. The A57 is a well-constructed phone with an optimal body-to-screen ratio, and it provides adequate performance and long battery life.

Some of its notable features are the dedicated two SIM card slots and a microSD card, the fast and responsive fingerprint scanner, a good amount of RAM for smooth multitasking needs, and the easy to use Color OS interface.

The downside is the A57 is running on an older Android OS and has no news about the Android 7 Nougat update, it's priced at 11,990 which is a bit expensive compared to Vivo V5 priced at P12,990 but features a 20-megapixel selfie camera and has a larger 5.5-inch screen.
