HUAWEI WATCH 3

2021 is a huge year for smart wearables, including smartwatches that offer functions beyond simple heart rate monitoring and showing time. The latest HUAWEI WATCH 3 is a premium smartwatch with a HarmonyOS and support for eSIM.

HUAWEI WATCH 3

With its premium aesthetics, the HUAWEI WATCH 3 strikes a balance between a smartwatch and a traditional wristwatch. We've already unboxed the WATCH 3 and shared our initial impressions; now it's time to share our hands-on experience with this premium smartwatch.

Design and Built
The WATCH 3 is built with a polished stainless steel watch body with ultra-curved 3D glass and a large display, culminating in an elegant design for a timepiece. The watch is made of 316L stainless steel that has been cold-forged and PVD coated to withstand daily abrasions and sweat corrosion.

HUAWEI WATCH 3

It's also the first Huawei smartwatch to come with a 3D rotating crown that offers nice tactile feedback and a more intuitive user experience.

The Watch 3 has a diameter of 46mm and a ceramic plate on the rear, measuring roughly 2mm in thickness. Wearing it has a delightful sensation to it thanks to the 22mm fluoroelastomer strap, which is nice against the skin. It has one button to the side that can be assigned to launch an app on the watch.

With its 1.43-inch AMOLED display, the Watch 3 looks very stunning. The sharpness and brightness of the text and graphics look wonderful. The circular finish and rounded screen offer a timeless style with a superior feel.

The touch and gesture capabilities are both sensitive and even the simple raise-to-wake function is fast and reliable.

The Watch 3 series is Huawei's first smartwatch to feature the company's latest HarmonyOS 2.0 operating system. It's our first time using the IU, and it appears to be so simple and intuitive to use that we quickly get used to using it.

HUAWEI WATCH 3

The setup is simple; simply scan the QR code on the watch to download the app companion, and of course, it works flawlessly on Huawei smartphones; just open the Bluetooth and it will be recognized and ready to connect; then complete the remaining setup steps on the smartphone.

HUAWEI WATCH 3

It's easy to find what you need on the Watch 3, when you press on the round symbol in the application grid, you can launch each of the dedicated fitness applications.

The control panel lets you access everything on the Watch 3. Swipe right on the home screen to display the four modules from top to bottom:

1. Always-on information: Voice assistant and weather information
2. Background apps: Workout, stopwatch, timer, ongoing call, taxi information, navigation information, and more.
3)Audio Control Panel: Not only can WATCH 3 control the music streaming on a smartphone, but it also allows for a seamless connection across devices for uninterrupted music enjoyment.
4) Scenario-based AI Tips cards: The HUAWEI WATCH 3 supports schedule/meetings and current weather.

One of the things we like about the watch is how simple it is to find the information we need. Each dedicated fitness function has its own 'app,' which can be accessed by simply touching on the small round icon in the app grid. Pressing the 3D rotating crown activates the display, and pressing it again launches the app list, which can be zoomed in or out to make selecting an app easier.

Features
The Watch 3 introduces a broader selection of watch faces that are available for download in both a free and premium edition with a wide range of interesting themes including tech, gaming, DIY, and short videos, the watch faces can be mixed and matched based on what you want. One of the cool watch faces is the gaming watch face, the pinball watch face which we had fun playing during our free time.

HUAWEI WATCH 3

The Watch 3 stand-alone connectivity through eSIM is one of its main features. This feature may be enabled via the app, allowing the WATCH 3 and the linked smartphone to share the phone number, as well as the voice and mobile data connection. Not only that, you can answer incoming MeeTime calls directly from the watch, which is a neat feature. However, this feature is dependent on the telco's support for an eSIM on this device.

For music on the go, the WATCH 3 automatically syncs the playlist on the smartphone or streams the music event when the smartphone is not in use. Additionally, it includes a dedicated 6GB for music storage, which is another interesting feature of this watch.

HUAWEI WATCH 3

Additionally, it supports voice assistants. It now performs a wide variety of hands-free operations thanks to Huawei's Celia. We're able to make calls, listen to music, check the weather, set alarms, exercise, translate, and use other controls. To be active simply say "Hey Celia," and it will assist you with nearly anything.

WATCH 3 is also equipped with an accelerometer, gyroscope, and a microphone to provide multiple sensing capabilities, including automatic handwashing detection.

Fitness and health
The Watch 3 has just about every sensor you could possibly need for tracking exercise and health data. That includes heart rate monitoring, Skin Temperature Detector, SpO2, GPS, and motion sensors.

HUAWEI WATCH 3

When it comes to fitness, it features more than 100 workout modes, 19 pro modes, for indoor and outdoor sports, and 85 custom modes, with automatic exercise detection for the 6 most common types of workout.

The Skin Temperature Detector is a neat feature of the WATCH 3, it can detect if your temperature is high, so this is useful if you not feeling well and you want to check your temperature so that can take care of yourself in the best way possible.

Watch 3 has a dial-out option for emergencies. If the WATCH 3 detects a fall, it automatically switches to emergency mode and notifies your selected contact, or you can press the Up button five times to instantly send a call to emergency services. Because you will never know when accidents will happen.

When walking, jogging, or biking outdoor, users can take advantage of the watch's Pro Modes, which feature greater statistics and tracking capabilities. The maximum oxygen consumption (VO2 Max) and fatigue levels are tracked together with the typical speed, cadence, and heart rate.

The watch features HUAWEI TruSleep 2.0 for sleep monitoring, which keeps track of the wearer's heart rate, sleep quality, and breathing patterns throughout the night. This information is used to grade the wearer's sleep quality. Huawei's AI-enabled sleep tracker is capable of properly identifying six common sleep issues, including trouble falling asleep, light or frequent awakenings, and various dreams or irregular sleep patterns.

Battery Performance
The WATCH 3's dual-chipset architecture optimizes performance while simultaneously maintaining reliability. The Smart Power-Saving Algorithm 3.0 extends the battery life of the watch while tracking your health and fitness.

HUAWEI WATCH 3

During our daily use test, we were able to achieve three days of use on a single charge and with the default settings, which is rather impressive considering we were utilizing the majority of the watch capabilities such as heart monitoring, outdoor workouts, and sleep monitoring and more.

We also test the Ultra-Long Battery mode, which gives more battery life but this disables the cellular and Wi-Fi connections, restricts access to select apps, and decreases the screen refresh rate, but maintains the Bluetooth connection and allows you to monitor workouts using GPS. In exchange, we're able to use the watch for two weeks before it needs charging.

However, we prefer to use the default settings and disable the Ultra-Long Battery option in order to fully appreciate the watch's capabilities. Also, the raise-to-wake function is reliable, we were able to view the time whenever we desired.

The WATCH 3 supports both wired and wireless charging. It charges through a magnetic cradle and connects via a USB-A connector. A complete charge of the watch battery takes about two hours. Wireless charging is significantly easier; simply place the watch on the wireless charging pad and it will charge the battery immediately.

Pros
Premium watch design
Comfortable to use
Great AMOLED display
Reliable GPS tracking
eSIM compatibility
Voice command
Pack with fitness and health monitoring
Good battery life

Cons
Sleep tracking needs improvement
Fewer features on non-Huawei phones
