Marvel fans it’s time to assemble, the new OPPO Reno5 Marvel Edition is now in stores nationwide. Inspired by Marvel’s Avengers, this smartphone features a Quantum black and red color scheme.

We got lucky and we’re able to hold the new OPPO Reno5 Marvel Edition now it’s time to share with you my unboxing and hands-on review of this new marvel-inspired smartphone.

The Box – Unboxing
Seeing the box for the first time, it looks awesome its not your conventional smartphone box, it’s longer and a bit heavier.

At the front is the embossed Avengers logo, with red line stripes on the edges. On the side, there is the OPPO Reno5 Marvel Edition label, and at the back are the usual tech specs of the Reno5. It took me some to open this box since I enjoyed how it looks and feels in my hand.

OPPO did not leave any details unattended, even the back of the box lid has a drawing of the original 6 Avengers – Hawkeye, Hulk, Thor, Captain America, Iron Man, and Black Widow.

Next is the sleeve that housed the user’s guide and warranty manual also has insignia logos of the six original Avengers.

Then there’s the plastic case with the Marvel logo and comic design which makes it really looks nice and premium. The inner part also comes with patterns similar to Spider-Man’s suit, now this case is really for keeps.

Next is the SIM ejector PIN, which also got the Avengers logo, now this will be my official SIM PIN from now on.

The earphones that come in their own case have the Captain America shield logo on one earbud and the Iron Man logo on the other one. So now I can listen to my favorite playlist with Avenger style.

Even the type-C cable and the charger is special it comes in a red and black colorway. The 50W charger can charge the Reno5 Marvel Edition as quickly as an hour.

The Quantum Black Design
The Reno5 Marvel Edition is a marvel to hold; OPPO has gone to great lengths to ensure that no detail has been overlooked.

The Reno5 Marvel Edition has a slim 7.8mm design, is lightweight at just 171g, and has a very sleek appearance. It slips effortlessly into your denim pocket and fits comfortably in your hand.

Upfront is a 6.43-inch AMOLED display, with a 91.7% screen-to-body ratio and a 20:9 Aspect Ratio.

At the back is the classic Avengers black and red color scheme, it has this Quantum Black design that definitely adds a premium touch to this Marvel edition phone.

There’s the “A” Avengers logo at the center, with Captain America’s shield elements, there are also some elements from Black Widow’s logo with overall Quantum Suits design elements. Good thing the back surface is a matte texture so it’s smudge-proof and it’s really nice to touch and feel.

The quad-camera and the LED light are on the upper left side, comes with three huge camera lenses and a thick bump.

On the right side is the red power button while the red volume rocker is on the left side. Looking at it from the side view, it has a gaming look with its combination of colors from the Quantum Suits design.

The Type-C connector, audio jack, microphone, and speaker grille are all located at the bottom of the device. There is another microphone receiver is located at the top.

AMOLED Display
It has a 6.43-inch AMOLED display with a 20:9 aspect ratio, which is ideal for landscape mode and wide videos. It has a resolution of 1080 x 2400 pixels and a density of 411 pixels per inch.

The screen’s colors are vibrant, with a pleasant brightness level; the viewing angle is also excellent, and using it in direct sunlight is not a challenge. The icons in the default Avengers theme look fantastic and are a lot of fun to look at. This phone is great for playing games and watching Netflix, with bold colours.

It has a system-wide dark mode that can be switched on and off automatically, as well as an SGS eye care display that protects the eyes over time.

It has a more vibrant or gentle screen colour, and the refresh rate can be switched from the default 90Hz to 60Hz; of course, 90Hz has a smoother screen transition and a faster refresh rate.

This Marvel phone is powered by an 8nm Qualcomm Snapdragon 720G gaming mobile platform, with Kryo 465 CPU with two high-performance Cortex-A76 cores up to 2.3GHz and six high-efficiency Cortex-A55 cores up to 1.8GHz, paired with Adreno 618 GPU, 8GB LPDDR4x of RAM, and 128GB of storage.

Most midrange smartphones, such as the realme 7 Pro and the newest realme 8 Pro, use the Snapdragon 720G processor. This chipset has proven to be fast and reliable in terms of performance.

This phone, like Ironman’s AI Friday, responds quickly to touch commands, launches apps fast, and switches between apps quickly and smoothly.

In terms of gaming efficiency, games like Call of Duty Mobile run smoothly with high graphics settings, the gameplay is smooth without lag, touch controls are responsive, and the game’s details look great and easy on the eyes thanks to the AMOLED display.

Other games, such as War Robots, Asphalt 9, and Genshin Impact, benefit from the Adreno 618 GPU’s high frame rate capabilities. The speakers are adequate but not sufficient for completely immersing yourself in the game; hence, it is recommended that you use the provided earphones for a better gaming experience.

Color OS
Reno5 Marvel Edition runs on Android 11 with a Color OS 11.1 Avengers-themed setup out of the box.

With seven custom wallpapers featuring the original six Avengers, the default theme looks fantastic. The default lock screen also features the Avengers logo with design elements from Quantum Suits.

Other 3rd party app icons have marvel skin as well, with a nod to the Marvel heroes mostly on The System app icons. It can multitask and turn between applications effortlessly for day-to-day tasks. The Color OS responds quickly to touch commands.

Camera Performance

It has a quad-camera setup with a 64-megapixel main camera (f/1.7; FOV 79.5°; closed-loop focus motor), an 8-megapixel super wide-angle lens (f/2.2; FOV 119°; fixed focus), a 2-megapixel macro lens (f/2.4; FOV 89°; fixed focus), and a 2-megapixel mono lens (f/2.4; FOV 89°; fixed focus) on the rear. For selfies, there is a single 44-megapixel, f/2.4, FOV 85 sensor on the front.

Night mode, film, picture, selfie, dual-view video, slo-mo, time-lapse, AI mixed image, professional, extra HD, pano, text scanner, macro, sticker, soloop templates, and Google lens are among the shooting modes supported by the rear camera.

Night mode, film, picture, selfie, dual-view video, slo-mo, time-lapse, AI mixed image, pano, and sticker shooting modes are all available on the front camera.

The soloop templates is an interesting shooting mode, it has split-screen video, beautiful view, brand new you, Bad buy, creative train, boom boom, colorful lights, star, and a lot more available for download.

Dual-view capture is also a convenient way to make a video; it utilizes both the rear and front cameras, which is handy if you want to reveal what you’re looking at. The AI mixed portrait, on the other hand, is another way to be innovative while filming images.

In terms of video, the rear camera is capable of 4K(30fps), 1080P(60fps/30fps), 720P(60fps/30fps) video format recording. While the front camera can recored 1080P/720P 30fps (default: 720P(30fps) videos.

Due to Quarantine restrictions, we weren’t able to thoroughly test the Reno5 Marvel Edition’s camera capabilities, but we did manage to get some sample shots, which seem to be decent with a lot of details and colors, it’s also sharp and IG worthy.

Battery
The Reno5 Marvel Edition is packed with a 4,310mAh battery with a 50W Fash charge with support for VOOC 4.0, SuperVOOC, PD2.0, and QC2.0.

On a single charge, the battery will last for an entire day of use, which includes browsing social media pages, and blogs, streaming cat videos on YouTube, catching up on favorite Korean TV shows on Netflix, and playing a variety of games.

The battery charges quickly thanks to VOOC 4.0, and the included 50W Flash charger that can fully charge the battery in just over 2 hours. It’s also safe to charge it overnight because it has a 5-layer charging safety mechanism and a multi-cooling system to keep the battery safe.

Verdict
This smartphone is a must-have if you’re a Marvel fan. The Reno5 Marvel Edition’s concept details are breathtaking. The six original Marvel characters are included in one box, from packaging to accessories. It won’t let you down in terms of performance; it can multitask, and playing games is a blast thanks to its AMOLED display and powerful processor. Overall, this Marvel Phone is well worth the money; however, it only has 4G connectivity; a 5G version would have been great.
