Smart Offers the Best Mobile Video Experience, Says Ookla

Smart Communications Inc. has been acknowledged again for delivering the Best Mobile Video Experience across all mobile technologies by Ookla, the global leader in mobile and broadband network analysis.

Smart was declared the winner of the Best Mobile Video Experience award by Ookla, with a Video Score of 65.75 based on its study of Speedtest Intelligence data from 54,894 user-initiated tests from Q3 to Q4 2021. Its nearest rival earned a Video Score of 60.

Ookla's Video Score, which ranges from 0 to 100, takes into account consumers' real-world experiences while streaming videos, such as watching on a website or a streaming app.

Ookla scores consumer video experience on five factors, including the percentage of tests where users were unable to play a video, the average wait time for users to start a video, the video's quality, the percentage of tests where the video stalled, and the percentage of users who experienced rebuffering when the video stalled.

Strengthening the Philippines' Fastest 5G Mobile Network
Smart's latest award for Best Mobile Video Experience builds on the provider's success in sweeping the Ookla Speedtest Awards in both the first and second half of 2021 as the Philippines' fastest 5G mobile network, despite the provider's ongoing 5G rollout and network improvement efforts throughout the country.

As part of its commitment to providing Filipinos with the best video experience possible, Smart launched the Smart GigaPlay app, which provides users with free access to specially curated live and on-demand sports and entertainment content.

GigaPlay, which is available on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store, provides live and on-demand coverage of the country's top professional sports leagues, including the FIBA World Cup Qualifiers, the Japan B League, the National Basketball Association (NBA), the National Basketball League (NBL), the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA), the Premier Volleyball League (PVL), and the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP).

Additionally, GigaPlay's growing collection includes worldwide and K-Pop music award ceremonies and concerts, Korean drama series, and Hallyu Hangouts sessions, among other fantastic content geared toward Filipinos' passions.

Nationwide network infrastructure
Smart's large network infrastructure enables it to meet the expanding mobile needs of its 3G, 4G/LTE, and 5G subscribers across the country, from Batanes to Tawi-Tawi. As of end-2021, Smart has deployed around 7,200 5G base stations across the country. Supporting Smart's mobile network is PLDT's extensive fiber infrastructure, which is at 743,700 kilometers as of end-December.
