Xiaomi 12 Unboxing, First Impressions and Camera Samples

The Xiaomi 12 Series is now available in the Philippines, it’s powered by Qualcomm’s most powerful chipset to date, and equipped with an innovative videography studio and entertainment powerhouse that redefines the flagship category.

The Xiaomi 12 with 8GB+256GB is priced at ₱39,999, and the Xiaomi 12 Pro with 12GB+256GB which retails at ₱48,999 is now available at Xiaomi’s official online and authorized retail stores. 

Xiaomi Philippines sent us a Xiaomi 12 to evaluate, but first, here’s our unboxing and initial impressions of Xiaomi’s newest flagship smartphone.

Unboxing Xiaomi 12
The Xiaomi 12 comes packaged in a white typical smartphone box with a gold accent on the brand label. At the bottom of the box are several key technical specs about the phone, including the color, RAM, and storage.

Inside the box are the Xiaomi 12, SIM ejector tool, 67W wall charger, USB-C cable, simple protective case, and paper documentation. Additionally, it includes a screen protector that has already been fitted. 

Although it does not come with wired earphones, it is a nice touch that it does have a protective case as well as a charger in the box.

First Impressions
The Xiaomi 12 features a compact design for comfortable one-handed operation with flagship capabilities. It features a 6.28-inch Full HD+ OLED display, with a 20:9 aspect ratio.

It features 120Hz AdaptiveSync, and up to 480Hz touch sampling rate, for smooth entertainment, and a vibrant, and flicker-free display. It measures only 69.9mm in width, with smooth curves making it a perfect fit on the hand.

It features an all-new iconic design it has symmetrically curved edges, a rounded style, and a silky smooth to the touch. Xiaomi 12 is available in three color variants including Gray, Purple, and Blue. It only weighs 180g making it lightweight and comfortable to use even for an extended period of time.

The Xiaomi 12’s triple camera system, which includes a 50-megapixel main camera, a 13-megapixel ultra-wide angle camera, and a 5-megapixel telemacro camera, is one of its standout features. It has a noticeable camera bulge, and the primary camera boasts a massive lens, dwarfing the secondary cameras. There’s also the Xiaomi branding printed on the back.

The volume rocker and power button are located on the right side of the phone, and both provide a firm click when pressed.



The SIM tray is located at the bottom of the phone, along with the Type-C port, microphone, and speaker. Unfortunately, it lacks a 3.5mm audio connector, which means you’ll need a Type-C adaptor to connect your preferred wired earphones, or, for added convenience, it’s best to use a Bluetooth wireless earbud.



The IR blaster, a second microphone, and a second speaker can be found at the top of the phone. The Symmetrical dual speakers are powered by Harman Kardon Dolby Atmos speakers.

Qualcomm’s most advanced mobile platform, Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, with 4nm technology, powers the Xiaomi 12. While the Adreno 730 GPU’s graphics rendering capabilities have increased by 30%, its energy efficiency is improved by 25%. It can outperform its predecessor in terms of performance and power efficiency.

Additionally, it features 256GB of UFS 3.1 storage and 8GB of LPDDR5 RAM with a maximum memory speed of 6,400Mbps. Furthermore, the Xiaomi 12 packs a large cooling system into its compact form factor, with a 2,600mm2 VC and over 10,000mm2 of heat-dissipating graphite, to provide extra smooth and reliable performance.

Xiaomi 12 packs a 4,500mAh battery, with Xiaomi AdaptiveCharge – it’s the company’s smart charging algorithm. It also supports Xiaomi 67W wired and 50W wireless turbo charging.

Overall first impression of this Xiaomi flagship smartphone is we love the compact form factor, the premium built and design, and the curved screen, and body that makes it very comfortable to hold and use. The Xiaomi 12’s camera is superb, and the company’s advanced AI algorithm does an excellent job of enhancing each photo. It’s lightning-fast in terms of performance, and the screen is razor-sharp and stunning to look at.
