This new course and the newly announced advanced credentials in data analytics and business intelligence are part of the Philippines' Google Career Certificate program. With this, Google is partnering with the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) to offer government ICT practitioners Cybersecurity Career Certificate scholarships.
Outside of the scholarship program, anyone over the age of 18 can earn the certificate online in less than six months of part-time study, with no prior degree or experience necessary.
In the past year, cyber-attacks on a global scale increased by nearly 40 percent, placing at risk critical infrastructure such as governments, hospitals, electrical grids, schools, and businesses. There is insufficient personnel to address these threats; a global shortage of 3.5 million cybersecurity professionals is anticipated through 2025.
The Google Cybersecurity Certificate will teach students the basics of cybersecurity, including how to safeguard networks, devices, people, and data from intrusion. This will make them more marketable for entry-level positions in the field.
Students will gain practical knowledge of Python, Linux, and numerous security applications, such as Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) systems. Individuals who finish both the curriculum and the CompTIA Security+ test will have earned double accreditation in the field of cybersecurity.
