The summit served as a platform to inspire and engage tech pioneers and business leaders, while emphasizing the need for sustainability and responsible tech usage, as today's practices will impact future generations.
The KPMG Philippines Academic Innovation Challenge 2024
At the heart of the summit was the first-ever KPMG Academic Innovation Challenge (AIC), where talented tech students from 15 colleges and universities showcased their skills in data analytics. The theme, "Processed data is information. Processed information is knowledge. Processed knowledge is wisdom," set the tone for the competition.
Out of the 57 participants, the Trial and Aaron team from the University of the Philippines-Diliman emerged victorious. Team members Kline Jeff Lepardo, Aaron Lowel Santomin, and Julienne Vinarao impressed judges with their ability to visualize data through innovative analytics.
Second place went to QWERTY from Far Eastern University Manila, with team members Maria Heart La Fuente, Hershey Jone Edralin, and Jerica De Guzman. APC JAM from Asia-Pacific College secured third place, thanks to team members Adan Cabildo, Matthew Aaron Pinlac, and Jasper Daniel Abogado, who showcased a unique approach to data precision and innovation.
The judging criteria for this year’s challenge were based on originality and creativity (50%), design and code efficiency (30%), and the impact and clarity of the presentation (20%).
Ethical AI and Sustainability
The summit emphasized the ethical use of Artificial Intelligence (AI), urging businesses to adopt transparency and accountability in AI practices. Discussions also explored how technology intersects with sustainability, encouraging responsible corporate practices while leveraging digital advancements.
The Race to Digital Transformation
The summit likened digital transformation to a marathon, with organizations at different stages of the race. Some are just starting, while others have made significant strides. KPMG Philippines aims to guide organizations no matter where they are in their digital journey, offering insights and strategies to help them succeed in this fast-paced transformation.
Since 2021, the KPMG Innovation Summit has provided a space for industry leaders, experts, and the public to exchange ideas on digital transformation. In 2022, the hybrid summit won the prestigious Anvil Award for Special Event and Exhibit. This year’s summit saw over a thousand participants from the public and private sectors, with support from key organizations such as the Analytics and AI Association of the Philippines, the British Chamber of Commerce, Digital Pilipinas, and more.
