Commuting on the MRT-3 just got a whole lot easier. Thanks to a new partnership between GCash and the Department of Transportation, you can now skip the long lines and pay for your ride using your GCash wallet.

Whether you're rushing during peak hours or simply tired of looking for spare change, GCash is making the MRT-3 commute smoother and faster for everyone. With just your phone or GCash Visa Card, you're ready to enter the station, no more waiting, no more hassle.

Here are the 3 simple ways you can now use GCash to pay for your MRT-3 rides:

1. Tap to Pay with Your NFC-Enabled Android Phone. Got an Android phone with NFC? You can now use it to tap in and out of the MRT-3.

Here’s how to set it up:

  • Open your GCash app and go to Settings.
  • Turn on your phone’s NFC.
  • Log in to your account and select Tap to Pay.
  • Agree to the terms, and you’re ready to go.

Once activated, just open the GCash app and tap your phone at the turnstile. It’s that easy—no need to input your destination or buy a separate ticket.

2. Scan a GCash Commute QR Code. Don’t have NFC? No problem. You can still enjoy contactless entry by generating a Commute QR code from your GCash app. It acts like a digital ticket that works at the MRT-3 fast lane.

To use it:

  • Tap Commute in the GCash app and select Generate QR.
  • Download or screenshot the QR code.
  • At the station, simply scan your QR at the fast lane scanner.
  • Do the same when exiting the station.

For Globe and TM users, this works even without mobile data!

3. Use Your GCash Visa Card. If you prefer using a card, or if your phone’s battery is low—you can still ride cashless with the GCash Visa Card. Just tap the card at the entry and exit points like you would with any train card.

Even better, this card is directly linked to your GCash wallet, so no need to line up for reloading. You can also use it to shop online, pay in stores, and even withdraw cash at ATMs for as low as ₱10. For now, any change from your MRT fare will reflect in your GCash wallet within 24 hours.

To get started:
  • Open the GCash app, tap Cards, and choose Order a Card (₱250 fee; arrives in 7–10 days).
  • Once it arrives, go back to Cards and select Link My Card.
  • Enter the One-Time PIN (OTP), your card details, and virtual account number found at the back.

With these three new ways to pay, commuting on the MRT-3 is now faster and more convenient than ever. Whether you tap your phone, scan a QR, or swipe your Visa card, GCash makes sure you’re always one step ahead and one line shorter.
