Smartwatches today are packed with features, but not all of them are enjoyable to use every day. Some focus too much on adding extra functions while overlooking the basics, such as comfort, battery life, and a display that remains easy to read outdoors.
The REDMI Watch 6 takes a more straightforward approach. It features a large 2.07-inch AMOLED display, a slim aluminum alloy frame, over 150 sports modes, and a battery that’s built to last for days on a single charge.
After using it for daily routines, outdoor walks, and workout sessions, what immediately stood out was how light and comfortable it feels on the wrist. The larger display also makes a noticeable difference when checking notifications, tracking workouts, or simply glancing at the time under bright sunlight.
On paper, the REDMI Watch 6 already offers a solid set of features for a modern smartwatch. But as always, the real experience comes down to how it performs in everyday use.
Design and Build Quality
The REDMI Watch 6 has a clean and modern look. Xiaomi kept the design simple, and honestly, that works in its favor. Its squared design, slim profile, and large display give it a more premium smartwatch appearance similar to higher-end wearables, while still keeping the overall look lightweight and practical for everyday use.One of the first things I noticed was how slim the watch feels on the wrist. At around 9.9mm thin, it doesn’t feel bulky even with the larger display. Xiaomi also made it slimmer than the previous generation, which helps a lot during long hours of use, especially while walking, working, or wearing it overnight for sleep tracking.
The aluminum alloy frame gives the watch a more premium feel compared to typical plastic smartwatches in this category. It feels sturdy without becoming heavy, and the upgraded metal chassis adds a bit more confidence when wearing it daily outdoors.
I used the Obsidian Black color during testing, and it easily matched both casual and workout outfits. The matte finish also helps minimize fingerprints around the frame, which keeps the watch looking cleaner throughout the day.
Comfort is another strong point here. The included TPU strap feels soft and flexible enough for all-day use. During workouts or outdoor walks, it stayed comfortable on the wrist most of the time, although after longer sweaty sessions, the strap can start feeling slightly warm and sticky on the skin. Out of the box, the strap also feels a bit firmer before it softens up after several days of use.
The quick-release strap system is convenient since swapping bands only takes a few seconds. However, it uses a proprietary attachment mechanism, which means standard third-party watch straps won’t fit directly. Users will likely need to look for bands specifically designed for the REDMI Watch 6.
Xiaomi also improved the physical controls on the REDMI Watch 6. It now features a dual-button setup with a functional rotating crown that makes scrolling through menus and notifications feel quicker and more natural. The added secondary button also became surprisingly useful during testing, especially for quickly accessing shortcuts and controls without navigating through multiple menus.
Display
The display is easily one of the highlights of the REDMI Watch 6. The moment the screen lights up, it gives the watch a cleaner and more refined appearance compared to most budget smartwatches. It features a large 2.07-inch AMOLED panel with a 432 × 514 resolution, and the extra screen space genuinely improves daily use. Notifications are easier to read, workout stats appear clearer outdoors, and even smaller text stays sharp and readable. With its 324 PPI pixel density, icons and watch faces look detailed without looking rough or pixelated.
One of the biggest upgrades here is the 60Hz refresh rate. Scrolling through menus, widgets, and notifications feels noticeably smoother compared to older smartwatches that still use slower displays. Animations feel fluid, and the interface responds quickly while navigating around the watch.
Brightness is also impressive. The display can reach up to 2000 nits peak brightness, and during outdoor walks under direct sunlight, the screen stayed easy to see without constantly adjusting my wrist angle.
The slim bezels help make the display appear even larger, while the AMOLED panel delivers vibrant colors and deep blacks that make watch faces stand out nicely. Xiaomi’s automatic brightness adjustment also works smoothly depending on the environment without sudden jumps in brightness.
The Always-On Display feature is another nice addition. Instead of switching to a plain monochrome clock, the watch keeps parts of the active watch face visible, making it feel more natural when quickly checking the time throughout the day.
That said, enabling Always-On Display noticeably affects battery life. During testing, the battery drained faster compared to using raise-to-wake alone, so users who prioritize longer battery life may prefer leaving AOD disabled most of the time.
One thing worth noting is the display protection. While the curved glass looks sleek, it doesn’t feel as durable against scratches as the glass used on more expensive smartwatches. The slightly raised display also leaves the edges more exposed to accidental bumps during daily use.
The screen also tends to pick up fingerprints and smudges fairly quickly, especially outdoors under bright lighting, so using a screen protector would probably be a good idea for long-term daily use.
Durability
For daily wear, the REDMI Watch 6 holds up quite well thanks to its reinforced aluminum chassis and lightweight unibody construction. Even with its thin profile, the watch never came across as delicate while wearing it outdoors, at the gym, or during swimming sessions.I was able to use it under light rain, during intense sweaty workouts, and while swimming in the pool without any issues. With its 5ATM rating, the watch can comfortably handle swimming and other water-related activities. Xiaomi also included underwater heart rate tracking, which adds extra usefulness for users who spend a lot of time swimming.
The rotating stainless steel crown also feels nicely built. Repeated scrolling and button presses throughout the day never made the controls feel loose or cheap, and the secondary button remained tactile during use.
Compared to older Redmi watches, the frame construction now feels more reinforced. Minor knocks against tables, doors, and walls during testing didn’t leave visible marks on the body.
The biggest area that still needs extra care is the front glass. Since the watch uses standard curved tempered glass instead of tougher sapphire or Gorilla Glass materials, the large screen surface can still collect scratches if exposed to rough objects like keys, sand, or concrete surfaces. The slightly elevated glass edges also leave the corners more exposed during accidental side hits.
While the watch handles water exposure well, it’s still best to avoid hot showers, saunas, steam rooms, or high-pressure water activities since those conditions can affect the long-term sealing of the device.
Performance
Using the REDMI Watch 6 throughout the day felt fast and consistent. Opening apps, switching between widgets, checking alerts, and browsing settings all happened smoothly without noticeable delays. The 60Hz refresh rate helps make the interface look more fluid compared to older budget smartwatches, especially when scrolling through menus or notifications. Xiaomi’s HyperOS also keeps the experience lightweight and easy to navigate.
Notifications synced properly from the phone during testing, while the vibration feedback felt strong enough to notice even outdoors. The rotating crown also makes navigating the interface more convenient, especially when scrolling through longer menus.
Fitness tracking during walks and workouts stayed reliable, with heart rate readings and step tracking remaining close to the results recorded on my phone. GPS signal locking outdoors was also fairly quick before starting activities.
Bluetooth 5.4 connectivity remained stable throughout daily use. Bluetooth calling worked well indoors, while the built-in speaker sounded clear enough for short calls and voice alerts.
The watch also supports local music playback through connected wireless earbuds, which is useful during workouts if you prefer leaving your phone behind.
Overall, the REDMI Watch 6 focuses on speed, stability, and responsiveness for daily tasks, and during actual use, it handled those tasks without becoming frustrating to use.
OS and User Interface
The REDMI Watch 6 runs on Xiaomi’s HyperOS 3, and the overall software experience feels simple, clean, and easy to learn even for first-time smartwatch users.
Navigation is straightforward. Swiping down opens notifications, swiping up shows widgets and health data, while left and right gestures cycle through cards like music controls, weather updates, and activity tracking. The rotating crown also makes scrolling through menus feel more precise and convenient.
The interface stays organized without feeling cluttered, and most important features are only a few swipes away. I also liked how health information such as heart rate, sleep tracking, and workout records are easy to access directly from widgets.
Pairing the watch with the Mi Fitness app was quick during setup. Syncing notifications, downloading watch faces, and adjusting settings only took a few minutes.
There’s also a wide selection of watch faces available, from sporty dashboard layouts to cleaner minimalist designs. Some portrait-style watch faces even add a layered depth effect that makes the display look more dynamic.
That said, the software still has some limitations compared to full WearOS smartwatches. You can read notifications and use preset replies, but there’s no support for typing custom responses directly from the watch.
Sports & Health Features
The REDMI Watch 6 comes packed with health and fitness features, supporting over 150 sports modes ranging from walking, running, cycling, and gym training to more specialized workout activities. For daily wellness tracking, the watch includes heart rate monitoring, blood oxygen tracking, stress monitoring, sleep analysis, breathing exercises, and women’s health tracking. Most of these features run automatically in the background, making the watch useful even outside workouts.
Sleep tracking during my usage was detailed enough for everyday monitoring. It breaks down light sleep, deep sleep, REM cycles, and awake periods clearly through the Mi Fitness app. However, there were moments when lying still in bed while using my phone or watching videos was occasionally detected as light sleep.
Heart rate tracking also stayed fairly responsive during workouts and outdoor walks. Readings updated quickly once workout intensity increased, and the watch can also send alerts when abnormal heart rate levels are detected.
For outdoor activities, the built-in GPS worked reliably during runs and walks. The dual L1 antenna system helps improve positioning accuracy, and route tracking stayed stable without random jumps or major signal drops during testing.
The watch also supports automatic workout detection for common exercises, which is useful if you forget to manually start tracking.
Another useful addition is compatibility with third-party fitness platforms through the Mi Fitness app, allowing workout records and GPS data to sync with services like Strava and Apple Health.
Connectivity
The REDMI Watch 6 uses Bluetooth 5.4, and during testing, the connection stayed stable whether I was at home, outdoors, or moving around the office. Notifications arrived consistently, and I rarely encountered unexpected disconnections while paired with my phone.Calls, messages, app alerts, and music controls all worked properly once connected. The built-in speaker gets loud enough for short phone conversations, while the microphone performs decently indoors, although background noise outdoors can sometimes affect voice clarity.
Reconnecting after temporary Bluetooth interruptions was also fairly quick, which helped make the experience feel less frustrating during daily use. The watch also comes with 512MB of internal storage, allowing local music playback when connected to wireless earbuds.
For outdoor activities, the watch includes multi-system GPS support, allowing accurate route tracking, pace monitoring, and distance recording even without bringing your phone.
That said, the REDMI Watch 6 still relies heavily on a connected smartphone. There’s no eSIM or LTE support available globally, which means calls, texts, and online features still require the watch to stay within Bluetooth range of your phone.
Battery and Charging
Battery life is one of the areas where the REDMI Watch 6 performs surprisingly well. Thanks to Xiaomi’s lightweight HyperOS platform and large 550mAh battery, the watch can easily last for days without constantly worrying about charging.During testing, with notifications, automatic brightness, sleep monitoring, heart rate tracking, and regular workouts enabled, the watch comfortably lasted close to Xiaomi’s claimed 12-day typical usage rating. Users with lighter usage habits can stretch it even longer, while enabling features like Always-On Display and continuous GPS tracking will naturally drain the battery faster.
Even with heavier usage, battery anxiety rarely became an issue throughout daily use. I only found myself charging the watch occasionally instead of every few days like some full smartwatch platforms.
Charging uses a proprietary magnetic two-pin cable that snaps securely onto the back of the watch. A full charge takes around an hour and a half from empty, which is acceptable considering the battery size.
That said, there’s no wireless charging support here, and since the watch relies on its own charging cable, losing it while traveling could become inconvenient. Fast charging is also fairly basic compared to some newer wearables that can quickly gain hours of usage in just a few minutes.

Verdict
The REDMI Watch 6 focuses on the features most users actually care about — a large and bright display, reliable fitness tracking, stable connectivity, and battery life that can comfortably last for days. After using it daily for workouts, walks, notifications, and general activity tracking, what stood out most was how easy it is to live with. The lightweight body stays comfortable even during longer use, while the 60Hz AMOLED screen makes the overall experience feel smoother and more modern compared to many budget wearables.
It’s not perfect, of course. The display glass could use better scratch protection, the proprietary strap system limits accessory options, and there’s still no eSIM support. But for what it’s designed to do, the watch handles everyday smartwatch tasks really well without becoming complicated or frustrating to use.
At its official price of ₱5,499, the REDMI Watch 6 offers a solid combination of display quality, battery life, health tracking, and daily convenience. For users looking for a dependable smartwatch without spending flagship-level money, this is an easy wearable to recommend.
