The official launch took place at the Mapúa University campus in Makati City, led by President and CEO Dr. Dodjie S. Maestrecampo, alongside key officials from Mapúa University, Mapúa Malayan Colleges Laguna (MCL), Mapúa Malayan Colleges Mindanao (MCM), and Mapúa Malayan Digital College (MMDC).
“AI is no longer optional. It is reshaping industries, redefining skills, and reimagining learning. This is why today we are formally launching the Mapúa Education Group's Co-Intelligence Strategy. We will learn with AI using AI tools to enhance teaching and learning; learn about AI, embedding AI literacy and critical thinking across every program; and work with AI, equipping our faculty, staff, and professionals to use AI in teaching, research, and operations,” said Maestrecampo.

A Holistic Approach to AI in Education
The Co-Intelligence AI Strategy is designed to create a future-ready learning ecosystem. Students, faculty, and employees gain AI literacy and hands-on experience to thrive in a rapidly evolving world.
Key initiatives include:
- AI-Infused Curriculum: AI is integrated into learning objectives, activities, and assessments to boost real-world skills and critical thinking.
- Embedded AI Courses: Students across all programs gain essential AI knowledge to apply in various disciplines.
- AI-Focused Professional Development: Faculty, staff, and professionals receive training in AI technologies to strengthen teaching, research, and operations.
- Long-Term Experiential Learning: Students engage in projects and work-based learning, applying AI skills in real-world scenarios.
The strategy also emphasizes ethical AI use, human-centric approaches, emotional intelligence, and creativity, ensuring the Mapúa community can critically evaluate AI output while advocating responsible use.
AI in Action Across Mapúa Campuses

Mapúa campuses are already using AI tools to enhance learning:
- Mapúa MCM: The MyPÚA digital companion offers an AI Tutor to generate practice exams, analyze results, and support learning.
- Mapúa MCL: The PathBuilder platform personalizes learning paths and content to improve engagement and knowledge retention.
- MMDC: The MMDC Learner’s Assistant provides fast, always-on support for online learners.
As part of the launch, Mapúa University also introduced the B.S. in AI Engineering, the first dedicated program of its kind in the Philippines. Offered at the School of Electrical, Electronics, and Computer Engineering, the program covers:
- Machine Learning and Deep Learning Architectures
- Robotics and Natural Language Processing (NLP)
- Applied AI development with ethical, social, and environmental considerations
“It is designed with reference to the Philippine Skills Framework for Analytics and AI to meet the growing demand for AI engineers. Students will engage in real-world projects addressing Philippine challenges like disaster response AI systems, agricultural yield optimization, healthcare diagnostics for underserved areas, and local language processing tools,” said Dr. Arnold Paglinawan, Dean of the School of Electrical, Electronics, and Computer Engineering.
Graduates can pursue careers as AI Engineers, Machine Learning Engineers, Data Engineers, AI Solutions Architects, Research Scientists, and more.
“The way forward for our students is to be the first generation of AI-native engineers, for the industry to partner with us in shaping the AI workforce, and for the Philippines to become a hub for ethical and inclusive AI innovation,” Paglinawan added.
Preparing Students for an AI-Powered Future
The launch also featured a discussion on AI’s impact on work, led by Rowena Subido, First Senior Vice President and Head of RCBC Human Resources Group.
“52% of professionals in the Philippines are in roles that may be disrupted or augmented by AI. AI will only replace your job if you don’t have skills. Upskill, reskill, and retool to stay ahead,” Subido noted.
The Mapúa Education Group is committed to empowering students with AI skills to accelerate careers and bridge the skills gap in modern industries. Its Co-Intelligence Strategy reflects a vision where AI complements human capabilities while promoting ethical, responsible, and human-centered AI learning.
With Co-Intelligence AI and the first BS AI Engineering program, Mapúa is setting the standard for AI-driven education in the Philippines—preparing students today for the careers of tomorrow.
