Vivo V11

Vivo is one of the top 5 smartphone brands in the country. Their latest innovation the in-display fingerprint scanner was first seen on Vivo X21 which is the company’s premium device, now it's also in the new Vivo V11 which was released last September 2018 and now shaping up to be one of the best in the midrange segment.

Vivo V11

The vivo V11 is a midrange device that features a full-view display with a small notch, a dual rear camera, a selfie AI camera, dual engine fast charging, and the In-display fingerprint scanner technology.

Design
The vivo V11 construction looks really premium, and the attention to detail on this device looks really great. The back has a 3D cover that features a nice fusion color, the company branding at the center, and the dual 12-megapixel (24 million photosensitive units) + 5-megapixel dual rear camera.

Going to the front there’s a 6.41-inch Super AMOLED display with 19.5:9 aspect ratio, and has 91.27 screen-to-body ratio, with really vibrant colors and stunning screen.

At the top of the display, there is a waterdrop-like notch that Vivo called Halo Notch its where the 25-megapixel AI selfie camera placed, it does not have LED flash but it uses the screen flash, while the earpiece is placed at the top.

The power button and volume rocker are placed on the right side and the SIM and micro SD card slot are placed on the left side. At the bottom are the micro USB port, speaker grill, and microphone.

Too bad Vivo is yet to implement the use of the more advanced Type-C connector, but this device is equipped with Vivo Dual-Engine Fast Charging, which can charge the battery fast provided that you use the included USB cable and charger.

Display
As we mentioned the V11 sports a 6.41-inch Fullview Super AMOLED display with a 19.5:9 aspect ratio and a halo notch. I’m really impressed with the colors, It’s one of the best screens I’ve seen in the midrange segment.

The colors are vibrant and have good contrast and it’s usable even under direct sunlight. Watching your favorite YouTube videos is great with its sharp colors and deep black. Not to worry about the notch since it automatically adjust when you are using the device for video in landscape mode.

In-display Fingerprint
One of the main highlights of the V11 is the In-display fingerprint scanner. It’s the 2nd Vivo device to have this feature the first one is Vivo X21.

Vivo V11

The scanner is located at the lower part of the screen. There’s a visible fingerprint scanner shape when the screen is in standby mode so that you’ll know where to place your finger to activate the device. It works most of the time, but a bit slower compared to the actual fingerprint scanner, it also requires a bit of pressure to work properly.

But still, this innovation is a lot cooler than your typical fingerprint scanner on the back of the device. Speaking of unlocking the V11, it supports other types of security like face unlock, PIN, swipe, and password.

Vivo has improved its face unlock features, now it uses infrared with 1024 facial points to unlock the device. This means that users can use this feature even in dark places. Based on my experience It’s even faster to unlock the V11 compared to using the In-display fingerprint scanner. Enrollment of face is easy and fast.

Under the hood
The V11 is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 660AIE, 6GB of RAM, and 64GB of storage space expandable up to 256GB capacity via microSD card. It comes with 3400mAh Battery.

FunTouch OS
It runs on Vivo’s latest Funtouch OS 4.5, which is one of the best skins for Android, has a nice UI similar to IOS, apps are nicely presented with vibrant icons, it does not have an app drawer but it support folder where you can arrange your collection of apps.

Some of the cool features of Funtouch are apps clone where you can easily clone selected apps like Facebook, and Instagram so that you can use your other account to login while the smart click can quickly launch a selected feature of the Vivo 11 by just pressing the volume down button when the device is in standby mode.

Another feature is the Smart Split allows you to slip the screen to be able to use two apps at the same time, so far it only supports social media apps and messaging apps for now. FunTouch offers a lot of features, you just need to dig at the settings to activate it.

Performance
vivo V11 never let me down when I used it as my primary phone, considering that I’m a heavy user. I rely on my smartphone everyday, I use it to check my company’s email, so I’m connected to mobile data most of the time. During travel time going to work, I play games like PUBG, Real Boxing 3, and NBA2K18 to pass time. The vivo V11 is great for handling multi-tasks, I can switch between apps easily. I also use it as a media player for Spotify.

Speaking of gaming, the V11 features Game Mode, when this feature is activated you can experience almost enhanced gameplay. It simply means that you can online games while four can still use phone functions such as receiving calls and answering text messages, now that's an awesome feature especially if you are in the middle of a tournament.

Vivo V11 AI cameras
Another reason why the V11 is a great device is its cameras. The V11 is equipped with a dual 12-megapixel (24 million photosensitive units) + 5-megapixel dual rear camera with LED flash and a 25-megapixel AI selfie camera.

The camera app is intuitive with easy to use controls,. It features Photo, Videos, AI Face Beauty, Panorama, Professional, AR Stickers, and Doc (can be used to scan documents) modes. It also supports Google lens that can be used to scan documents and QR codes.

Vivo V11

The main camera is impressive, it can really take great pictures in a well-lit environment. The bokeh effect works great in blurring the background of the subject. It’s capable of recording 4k videos but there’s no stabilization so just make sure you got a very steady hand or use a tripod when recording video.

Battery Life
The V11 is equipped with a 3400mAh battery. I’m impressed with its battery life. With everyday use, I usually get whole day use in one full charge that’s around 10 hours of usage. Charging is also impressive, using the included charger, it can charge the battery in less than 2 hours.

Conclusion
The Vivo V11 is a great midrange device with a lot of features to offer. The AMOLED display is comparable to other flagship brands such as Samsung and Huawei. It’s also a great gaming device with its Qualcomm Snapdragon 660AIE and 6GB of RAM you can do multi-task and not worry about slowing down the performance.

The camera on V11 is also great, the dual rear camera can take really great pictures and the bokeh effect is really good. Overall if you are looking for a smartphone with a price range of 20k or less you might want to consider Vivo V11.
