Design and Built
The Y02s come in two different colors—Flourite Black and Vibrant Blue, the latter of which is the color we reviewed. This thin and lightweight device (only 8.15 mm thick) is a joy to use thanks to its right-angled frame and 2.5D curvature.

Vivo Y02s

Even though the Y02s is a budget smartphone, yet it boasts Vivo's distinctive sleek design and glass-like texture, which protects the device from scratches and wear and tear while preserving the phone's vivid colors. This gives The Y02s a premium look.

It boasts a single-lens camera arrangement with an LED flash on the back, but there is no fingerprint scanner on the rear, on the power button, or on the display, which is somewhat disappointing.

The bottom of the device has a type-C port, earphone jack, microphone, and loudspeaker.

The right side of the phone houses the power button and volume rocker. The SIM card slot is conveniently placed on the top of the device, and it can accommodate not one but two nano-SIM cards in addition to the microSD card.

In terms of security, it supports the standard Password, PIN, Pattern, and Face Unlock.  It missing a fingerprint scanner, which is a standard feature on even the most basic smartphones which makes it somewhat disappointing.

Display and Audio
The 6.51-inch Halo FullView display, which has HD+ (1600 x 720) resolution, offers a wide and immersive viewing experience for movies and games alike.

Depending on the amount of natural light in the room, the screen's brightness will automatically adapt, and blue light will be filtered out to protect the user's eyes.

The bottom bezel is slightly wider than the rest, although the rest of the screen's edges are thin. Its 20:9 aspect ratio and 82.1% screen-to-body ratio makes it an excellent media player device.

Color Temperature is supported, allowing you to adjust the settings to your preference, but only the factory defaults are accessible when Eye Protection is turned on.

The single bottom-firing speaker is adequate for alerts and video playback, but if you want a more robust and immersive listening experience, you can always plug in your own wired headphones via the 3.5mm audio connection.

Cameras
Its single 8-megapixel rear camera and clever placement of an LED flash over the second camera lens give the impression of a dual-lens setup.

The cameras can shoot photos of reasonable quality that can be shared on social media. You can view samples of our photos on our Facebook page.

The camera app's modes include Beauty, Photo (with bokeh), Video, and Time-lapse. It supports video recording with up to 1080p video quality.

Hardware and Performance
The Vivo Y02s has an octa-core MediaTek Helio P35 chipset, 3GB of RAM, and 32GB of storage. Storage is one of its drawbacks, but microSD cards can be used to expand the device's storage.

Vivo Y02s

The MediaTek Helio P35, with its eight ARM Cortex-A53 cores clocked at up to 2.3GHz, IMG PowerVR GE8320 GPU, and LPDDR4x memory controller, offers a strong combination of efficient performance on a single chip.

The operating system takes up about 15.19 GB of the total 32 GB, leaving only 16.1 GB for user data including apps, media, and other personal files. Hence, it is recommended to use a microSD card for additional storage space.

Vivo Y02s

It runs on Android 12 with Color OS 12 on top out of the box, and it comes with a complete suite of Google apps as well as a large amount of bloatware that, thankfully, can be removed. It would have been snappier if this device runs on the Android Go edition.

While the Color OS 12 UI works fine and features appealing app icons, it lags behind compared to other Vivo phones with 4GB of RAM in boot time and lacks virtual RAM support, which would be fantastic if the phone has at least 64GB of storage capacity.

Vivo Y02s

For everyday usage, it can function well even with multiple apps open, and switching between apps takes about a couple of seconds. Using the camera during an online Zoom meeting is useful, and the 5-megapixel camera is enough for capturing facial expressions and producing clear video.

In terms of gaming, Call of Duty runs well on the Y02s, but it takes up a huge amount of storage space. It supports low graphics settings, but still, the gameplay is enjoyable. Details of the game are not as sharp but it's more than enough to score some kills and win the game using this device.

While casual games such as Alto's Odyssey, Among Us, Angry Birds 2, Candy Crush Saga, and more work well and run smoothly during gameplay.

Battery
The Y02s packs a large 5000mAh, and Vivo claimed that a single full charge can be used to watch 18 hours of online HD video streaming, 7 hours of intensive gaming, and 22 hours of music playback.

Vivo Y02s

During our time with the Y02s, we clocked in over eight hours of screen time, mostly by playing games at high brightness, listening to music, and streaming videos while connected to the internet via WiFi or mobile data, whichever was available.

Vivo Y02s

It takes about three hours to charge the battery from 5% to 100% capacity since it does not come with a fast charger and only comes with a 10W charger.

Pros
Solid Build quality
Trendy Design
Large FullView display
Premium look and feel
Capable Single lens camera
Good performance
Impressive battery
Affordable price

Cons
No fingerprint reader
Limited RAM and storage capacity
Slow charging feature
Single lens main camera

Final Thoughts
The Vivo Y02s is a good budget smartphone, boasting a modern style and slim build quality. It's a decent device, but the restricted app selection and limited RAM and storage capacity are letdowns. The selfie camera is more than adequate for use during a video conference, and the main camera performs admirably in well-lit environments. Though the battery lasts for a long time, its slow charging speed is less than impressive.

The Vivo Y02s is priced at just ₱6,499 and is currently available in all Vivo stores nationwide as well as on Vivo's official online store at Lazada and Shopee.
