HBO announces THE LAST OF US Second Season
THE LAST OF US is HBO's second-largest premiere, behind only "House of the Dragon." Domestically, Episode 1 has now topped 22 million viewers, an almost fivefold increase over its debut night crowd.
Episode 2 of THE LAST OF US drew 5.7 million viewers across HBO Max and linear telecasts in the United States, according to Nielsen and first party data, an increase of more than 1 million viewers compared to the series debut. This 22% increase represents the highest week two audience growth in the history of HBO Original Drama Series.
The season premiere of THE LAST OF US was also a huge success on social media, trending at the top of the charts in the United States and around the world on Twitter. A total of over 100 million people around the world have seen the season one promo and teasers so far. The series' companion podcast also debuted with success, with the first episode quickly rising to the top of the overall US Apple Podcast charts within the first two days after its debut.
THE LAST OF US is set twenty years after the destruction of modern society. Joel is paid to smuggle Ellie, a 14-year-old girl, out of a restrictive quarantine zone. What begins as a minor assignment quickly turns into a terrible and painful trip as they must traverse the United States and rely on one another for survival.
New episodes of the series debut Sundays at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT on HBO and are available to stream on HBO Go, leading up to the finale on March 12, 2023.
