Unboxing the Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite
The Mi 8 Lite comes in a pink and purple gradient-designed box with a big Eight Lite at the front. Opening the box, it includes the Mi 8 Lite device, USB Type-C cable, 5W power charger, SIM ejector tool, user manual, free jelly case, and Type-C audio adapter. Sadly, the package does not come with a headset.
Design and Display
Now let me talk about the design. The MI 8 Lite comes with a gradient design with 2.5D glass at the back. In terms of form factor, it's similar to the OPPO F9, it's easy to hold but tends to slip on my hands easily because of the glass cover. Good thing it comes with a jelly case.
At the back is the dual main camera, LED flash, and fingerprint scanner with company branding.
To the front is the sharp-looking 6.26-inch Full HD+ 19:9 2.5D Curved Glass Display with its huge notch at the top, where the selfie camera and other sensors are placed.
There is a microphone at the top, now on the right side are the power button and the volume rocker, while on the left is the hybrid SIM/microSD card tray.
Going to the bottom of the Mi 8 Lite are the Type-C connector, speaker grille, and microphone. There is no 3.5mm audio jack, hence the included Type-C audio adapter that can be used if you want to use your wired headset. But you can always use Bluetooth earphones, which is so convenient.
Performance
The Mi 8 Lite is powered by a 2.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 AIE (artificial intelligence engine) chipset paired with 4GB of RAM, 64GB of internal storage, and a 3,350mAh battery with Quick Charge 3.0 technology. Not bad for a smartphone that is priced below the ₱15k mark.
Out of the box, it runs on Android 8.1 Oreo with MIUI, which is Xiaomi’s own custom user interface. The MIUI 9.6.5 comes with a clean look and simple interface, it's easy to use, and the app icon animation looks really cool.
Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite Cameras
This device is equipped with a Sony 24-megapixel selfie camera with 1.8μm large pixels capable of AI scene detection and AI light adjustment.
There’s a dual rear camera setup at the back, which consists of a 12-megapixel sensor with a f/1.9 aperture lens and a 5-megapixel secondary camera sensor.
Some of our first camera shots using the Mi 8 Lite camera look amazing, and the AI works well in identifying the subject and automatically applying the correct filter.
The Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite is priced at ₱13,990 (4GB + 64GB version) and ₱16,990 (6GB + 128GB version). It's now available at the Xiaomi official store via Lazada and Shopee and will soon follow at the retail stores in Trinoma, Megamall, SM North Annex, and Gateway Mall.
