Could OxygenOS and Realme UI be nearing the end of the road? A new report suggests OPPO may unify its software under ColorOS, potentially changing the software experience for future OnePlus and realme devices
Reports suggest that OPPO could be preparing to retire the OxygenOS and realme UI brands in favor of a unified ColorOS platform across its smartphone lineup. While neither OPPO, OnePlus, nor realme has officially confirmed the move, the reported change would further align the software experience across the three brands.

The report, first published by Smartprix and later echoed by other technology publications, claims that OPPO plans to consolidate software development under ColorOS. If implemented, the move would simplify development, reduce research and development costs, and allow the company to maintain a single Android skin instead of multiple software platforms.

A Long-Awaited Software Consolidation
Although the report has sparked discussion among smartphone users, the transition would not be as dramatic as it may sound. Since 2021, OxygenOS and ColorOS have shared much of the same underlying Android codebase following the closer integration between OPPO and OnePlus. Over time, the two interfaces have become increasingly similar, sharing many of the same features, system apps, animations, and design elements.

realme UI has also evolved on a similar foundation, making the software experience across OPPO, OnePlus, and realme devices more alike than ever. If the reports prove accurate, the most noticeable difference for users may simply be the branding rather than a significant redesign of the interface.

More Than Just Software
While OPPO, OnePlus, and realme have yet to officially confirm the reported transition, the reports also suggest broader organizational changes. OPPO is said to be unifying software development under ColorOS, while OnePlus is reportedly focusing its operations on India and China after restructuring parts of its global business. realme is also said to be shifting more of its focus toward international markets. These reported changes are believed to be part of a broader effort to streamline operations across the group.

What This Means for Existing Devices
At the time of writing, there is no indication that current OnePlus or realme smartphones will lose software support if the reported changes move forward. Users should continue receiving Android version upgrades and security updates according to the software support policy promised for their devices. The reported transition appears to focus on future devices and software branding rather than affecting existing update commitments.

Awaiting Official Confirmation
For now, the information should be treated as a report rather than confirmed company policy. OPPO, OnePlus, and realme have not announced any plans to discontinue OxygenOS or realme UI, and additional details are expected only if the companies decide to make the transition official.

Until then, users can expect business as usual while the industry watches for any official update on the future of OxygenOS, realme UI, and ColorOS.
