Technology continues to play an important role in making education more inclusive. Through a new partnership, Acer Academy and De La Salle–College of Saint Benilde are working together to support Deaf education in the Philippines.
The collaboration aims to provide deaf Filipino learners with improved access to digital tools, online learning, and future-ready skills through Benilde’s School of Deaf Education and Applied Studies (SDEAS).
Supporting Learning Through Technology
As part of the partnership, Acer Academy donated five Acer TravelMate laptops to DLS-CSB. SDEAS students will use these devices for daily academic needs, including accessing online learning platforms, completing digital coursework, and joining blended learning activities.
Beyond classroom tasks, the laptops also help students improve their digital literacy, an important skill that supports both education and future employment. With better access to technology, students can explore more learning tools and gain confidence in using digital platforms.
A Long-Term Commitment to Education
Acer shared that education remains one of its key focus areas in the country. According to Sue Ong-Lim, Managing Director of Acer Philippines, Acer Academy is built on the belief that education has the power to create real change.
She highlighted that Acer Academy already has more than 400 members nationwide. More than donating devices, the program aims to build long-term partnerships through immersion programs and collaborations that include students with disabilities.
Building Inclusive Opportunities
For Benilde, the partnership goes beyond hardware. Marian Patricia BEA Francisco, Dean of SDEAS, shared that the collaboration opens new pathways not just for students, but for the entire Benildean community. Strengthening digital capacity, developing skills, and supporting inclusion are key goals of the program.
Benilde also emphasized that the school supports many students who face financial challenges. Angelo Marco Lacson, Vice-Chancellor for Academics, explained that the institution actively looks for partners, benefactors, and donors to help provide education to underprivileged students, including persons with disabilities and those with special learning needs.
