Insta360 Luna Ultra Challenges DJI
Pocket cameras have looked largely the same for years, with most brands focusing on small upgrades rather than major changes. That could soon change with the arrival of the Insta360 Luna Ultra, a creator-focused camera that appears to take a very different approach from today's pocket-sized gimbal cameras.

dual Leica Summicron lens system
Information surrounding the device points to an impressive combination of dual Leica cameras, optical zoom, up to 8K video recording, AI-powered subject tracking, and a detachable modular design. If it arrives with these features intact, the Insta3260 Luna Ultra could become one of the strongest alternatives to DJI's popular Osmo Pocket series.

Dual Leica Cameras in a Compact Body
One of the standout features of the Luna Ultra is its dual-camera setup. The camera is expected to pair a large 50MP 1-inch CMOS sensor with a secondary 1/1.3-inch telephoto sensor, giving creators more flexibility than a typical single-camera pocket device.

The optics are co-engineered with Leica and feature a dual Leica Summicron lens system. The main camera uses a 20mm wide-angle lens with an f/1.8 aperture, while the telephoto camera covers the equivalent of 70mm to 120mm focal lengths. Zoom capabilities are equally impressive, with support for 3x to 3.9x optical zoom and up to 12x hybrid lossless zoom.

This combination should make the camera suitable for everything from travel videos and landscapes to portraits and distant subjects without requiring additional accessories.

Built for Video Creators
Video recording appears to be one of the Luna Ultra's biggest strengths. The camera is expected to support recording at up to 8K resolution, giving creators more flexibility when editing and cropping footage for different platforms.

For slow-motion content, it can reportedly shoot 4K video at up to 240fps, making it suitable for action shots, sports, and cinematic sequences. Footage is expected to be recorded in MP4 format using the H.265 codec for efficient storage and playback.

Creators who enjoy color grading will likely appreciate support for:
    10-bit I-Log recording
    Gamma Log profiles
    Dolby Vision HDR
Approximately 14 stops of dynamic range

Combined, these features put the Luna Ultra closer to professional creator tools than a typical pocket camera.

A Modular Design That Stands Out
While the camera specifications are impressive, the design may be what separates the Luna Ultra from its competitors. The device is expected to feature a Twist Modular Design, allowing the entire camera and gimbal assembly to detach from the main grip.

This design could create new shooting possibilities while keeping the overall system compact and easy to carry. The Luna Ultra is also expected to include a 2-inch rotatable OLED touchscreen with brightness levels reaching up to 1,000 nits. Despite these added capabilities, the complete setup reportedly weighs less than 150 grams.

More interestingly, the display can function independently as a wireless remote controller when detached. It can also act as an external microphone, making it particularly useful for solo creators filming themselves.

AI-Powered Tracking and Stabilization
Inside the Luna Ultra is a dedicated Triple AI Chip designed to handle image processing, subject tracking, and low-light optimization.

The processor powers Deep Track 3.0, Insta360's latest tracking system that can automatically recognize and follow subjects while keeping them centered in the frame. For stabilization, the camera combines a 3-axis mechanical gimbal with Insta360's FlowState stabilization technology.

This combination should help deliver smooth footage whether users are walking, traveling, or capturing fast-moving action.

Battery Life and Connectivity
The Luna Ultra is expected to feature a 1,500mAh battery capable of delivering approximately 150 to 180 minutes of recording time. Under certain recording conditions, runtime could reportedly extend close to four hours.

Storage expansion is handled through a microSD card slot, while connectivity options include:
    USB 3.0
    USB Type-C
    Dual-band Wi-Fi
    Bluetooth
These features should make file transfers, remote control functions, and accessory connections much easier for creators on the go.

Release Date and Pricing
Insta360 has not yet shared official details regarding availability or pricing. Current industry estimates suggest pricing could fall between ₱28,000 and ₱40,000, depending on the final configuration and bundled accessories.

Early Thoughts
The Luna Ultra appears to bring a fresh perspective to a category that has seen relatively little innovation in recent years. The combination of dual Leica cameras, optical zoom, 8K recording, AI-powered tracking, and a detachable modular design gives it a unique identity among pocket cameras. Rather than simply following the formula established by existing devices, Insta360 seems focused on giving creators more flexibility while maintaining portability.
