TECNO continues to raise the bar for its CAMON lineup, and the CAMON 50 Ultra 5G brings some of the biggest upgrades we've seen so far. This latest addition combines a premium-looking design, a 144Hz curved AMOLED display, a capable triple-camera system headlined by a 50MP Sony sensor, and a large 6500mAh battery packed into a surprisingly slim and lightweight body.
While the CAMON series has built its reputation around mobile photography, the CAMON 50 Ultra 5G offers much more than just cameras. Alongside its imaging capabilities, the device comes with IP66, IP68, and IP69K durability ratings, a MediaTek Dimensity 7400 Ultimate processor, stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos, and a refined software experience based on Android 16.

Design has become one of the strongest areas of the CAMON series, and the CAMON 50 Ultra 5G continues that trend. TECNO managed to combine a large 6500mAh battery, a curved AMOLED display, and extensive durability features into a body that remains slim and comfortable to use every day.
What stood out during my time with the device was its weight. At just 181g, it feels surprisingly light in the hand, especially considering the battery capacity inside. The 7.75mm profile also helps make the phone feel less bulky than many devices with similar battery sizes.
The overall design focuses heavily on smooth curves. The display gently blends into the sides of the frame, while the rear panel follows a similar contour. This creates a more fluid appearance throughout the device, giving it a sleek and polished look from almost every angle.
The front is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2, while the back panel uses a frosted finish that does a good job minimizing fingerprints and smudges. Even after several days of use without a case, the rear panel stayed relatively clean and didn't require constant wiping.
Although the frame isn't made from metal, it doesn't feel cheap. The matte-finished frame feels solid with no noticeable flex or creaking, and the overall construction inspires confidence. The curved sides also help the phone sit naturally in the hand during extended use.
The camera module is another area where TECNO tried something different. Rather than placing all the cameras inside a traditional rectangular island, the company uses a split-camera layout that gives the back panel a more distinctive appearance. It's a bold design choice that helps the CAMON 50 Ultra 5G stand out from many smartphones that look increasingly similar.
Button placement is also well thought out. On the right side, you'll find the volume controls and power button, both of which provide satisfying tactile feedback. TECNO also includes a dedicated AI button on the left side of the frame with a textured finish, making it easy to identify by touch. A single press activates FlashMemo, while a long press launches the Ella AI assistant. The button can also be customized or disabled if you prefer not to use it.
One feature that I found particularly interesting is Aqua Mode. Since touch controls don't work reliably underwater, TECNO allows the physical buttons to take over certain camera functions. The volume keys can be used to capture photos, start or stop video recording, and switch between cameras, making underwater photography much more practical.
Looking around the device, the bottom frame houses the dual Nano-SIM tray, primary microphone, USB Type-C port, and speaker grille. The SIM tray itself features additional sealing to help maintain the phone's IP66, IP68, and IP69K ratings against water and dust ingress.
Of course, the design isn't without a few compromises. The curved sides can feel slightly slippery when used without a case, particularly during one-handed use. The camera module also protrudes noticeably from the back, causing a small amount of wobble when the phone is placed on a table. I also found myself accidentally pressing the AI button a few times during the first few days of use, although this became less frequent once I got used to its placement.
Despite those minor drawbacks, the TECNO CAMON 50 Ultra 5G remains one of the better-designed smartphones in its category. It manages to feel slim and lightweight without sacrificing battery capacity, while the premium materials, distinctive styling, and solid construction give it a more refined feel than previous CAMON devices.

Whether it was unexpected rain while heading home, using the phone outdoors on a hot day, or carrying it around without worrying too much about dust and splashes, the additional protection is something users can appreciate.

One of the more interesting durability-related features is Aqua Mode. Unlike many phones that simply advertise water resistance, TECNO actually includes tools designed for use around water. Once activated, the physical buttons can be used as camera controls since touchscreens become unreliable underwater. It's a thoughtful addition that makes the feature more practical rather than just another item on the spec sheet.
TECNO also includes a sonic water ejection function that helps remove trapped water from the speaker chambers after exposure to water. It's a useful feature that can help restore audio quality after the phone comes into contact with water.
Water resistance ratings still have limitations, and it's always best to avoid unnecessary exposure whenever possible. Still, the combination of Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protection, multiple IP ratings, reinforced construction, and military-grade certification gives the CAMON 50 Ultra 5G an advantage over many devices in the same category.
Display and Sound
The display quickly became one of my favorite parts of using the CAMON 50 Ultra 5G.. It's the part of the phone you'll interact with the most, and thankfully, it's also one of the areas where TECNO didn't cut corners.
The phone features a 6.78-inch curved AMOLED display with a 1.5K resolution and a refresh rate of up to 144Hz. On paper, those specifications already sound impressive, but what stood out more was how enjoyable the screen was to use throughout the day.
I spent a lot of time reviewing camera samples on the device itself before transferring them to my laptop, and the display made that process enjoyable. Images look sharp, colors appear vibrant without looking exaggerated, and zooming into photos reveals plenty of detail. The screen is also large enough for basic photo edits and content previews before posting to social media.
The 144Hz refresh rate helps make the entire phone feel quicker. Whether I was rapidly scrolling through Facebook, browsing photo galleries, or switching between apps while covering events, interactions felt smooth and responsive. After a few days, going back to a 60Hz display felt noticeably less fluid.
Watching videos was equally enjoyable. The AMOLED panel delivers deep blacks and strong contrast, making movies and YouTube content look more immersive. Colors have plenty of punch without appearing overly saturated, and darker scenes retain good detail.
Outdoor visibility was also good. Taking photos under bright sunlight or checking messages outdoors wasn't a problem, as the display remained readable even in challenging lighting conditions.
Audio performance complements the display nicely. The CAMON 50 Ultra 5G uses a stereo speaker setup, with the main speaker at the bottom and the earpiece acting as the second channel. The speakers produce clear vocals and good stereo separation, making videos, games, and music more enjoyable.
Volume levels are more than adequate for everyday use, and audio remains clear even at higher settings. Bass is understandably limited, but overall sound quality is solid for a smartphone in this category.

Performance
A large part of my review period involved using the CAMON 50 Ultra 5G while covering events, taking photos, editing images for quick uploads, and managing social media accounts throughout the day. Those are the types of tasks that can quickly expose performance issues, especially when constantly switching between camera apps, photo galleries, browsers, and messaging platforms.
The good news is that the CAMON 50 Ultra 5G handled those situations well. App launches were quick, multitasking felt smooth, and I rarely encountered delays while moving between different tasks. Even after capturing hundreds of photos during a busy day, browsing through the gallery remained responsive.
Under the hood is MediaTek's Dimensity 7400 Ultimate processor, built on a 4nm process and paired with up to 24GB of extended RAM and up to 512GB of storage. While the specifications look impressive on paper, what stood out more was the consistency of the overall experience.
The phone also benefits from its 144Hz display, which helps make everyday interactions feel faster. Whether I was scrolling through social media feeds, jumping between apps, or reviewing photos, everything felt fluid and responsive.
Beyond productivity and content creation, the CAMON 50 Ultra 5G also proved capable when it came to gaming. Mobile Legends: Bang Bang ran smoothly using high graphics settings, with gameplay remaining stable even during longer matches. The combination of the Dimensity 7400 Ultimate processor and the high refresh rate display helped make controls feel responsive, especially during fast-paced team fights.
Call of Duty: Mobile was equally enjoyable. The game maintained stable performance throughout extended sessions, and I didn't encounter any major frame drops while playing multiplayer matches. Touch response also felt accurate, which is important in competitive shooters where quick reactions matter.
I also spent some time playing Genshin Impact, which remains one of the more demanding games available on mobile. Using medium graphics settings provided the best balance between visuals and performance. The game remained playable and enjoyable, although occasional dips in frame rate can still occur during larger battles and more graphically intensive scenes.
For those who like benchmark numbers, the CAMON 50 Ultra 5G scored around 953,695 points in AnTuTu Benchmark. That's a healthy result for an upper midrange device and aligns well with the performance I experienced throughout the review period.
Thermal performance was also respectable. TECNO equipped the CAMON 50 Ultra 5G with a large 3,205mm² stainless steel vapor chamber, which helps keep temperatures under control during demanding tasks. Even after 30 to 45 minutes of gaming, the phone became warm but never uncomfortable to hold, and I didn't notice any significant performance throttling.
If there's one limitation, it's that this isn't a phone designed specifically for hardcore gamers looking for flagship-level graphics performance. More demanding games still benefit from adjusting settings to maintain the smoothest experience possible.
That said, for everyday users, content creators, social media managers, and casual to moderate gamers, the CAMON 50 Ultra 5G offers the kind of performance that simply gets out of the way and lets you focus on what you're doing. Whether I was shooting photos, editing content, uploading articles, or squeezing in a few gaming sessions between tasks, the phone consistently kept up without becoming a distraction.
OS and User Interface
The CAMON 50 Ultra 5G runs Android 16 with HiOS 16, and overall, the software experience feels more refined than what I remember from older TECNO devices. The interface looks cleaner, navigation feels more intuitive, and I didn't have to spend much time adjusting settings or searching through menus.

One feature that stood out was Instant Transfer. Sharing photos and files between Android and iPhone devices is usually more complicated than it should be, but TECNO's solution makes the process much more straightforward. It's particularly useful for users who regularly exchange content with friends, family members, or colleagues using iPhones.
The dedicated AI button is another feature that grew on me over time. I didn't use it constantly, but having quick access to shortcuts and AI tools was occasionally helpful, especially when saving information or performing quick tasks.
My only real complaint is that there are still a few pre-installed apps that many users probably won't need. Fortunately, most of them can be removed, so cleaning up the interface only takes a few minutes.
Overall, HiOS 16 feels smoother, cleaner, and more polished than previous versions. More importantly, it stays out of the way and lets you focus on using the phone rather than managing the software.
AI Features
AI features are integrated throughout the CAMON 50 Ultra 5G, focusing mostly on productivity and convenience rather than flashy gimmicks.
The phone also includes AI-powered writing, translation, and photo editing tools that can help simplify everyday tasks. They're not features I relied on constantly, but there were moments when they proved genuinely useful.
What I like is that most of these tools are easy to access when needed without constantly getting in the way of the overall user experience.

The CAMON 50 Ultra 5G handled connectivity well throughout my testing. Whether I was uploading photos, managing social media accounts, streaming videos, or navigating with Google Maps, connections remained stable both indoors and outdoors.

While many smartphones today offer high-resolution sensors, TECNO has focused on building a camera system that's versatile enough for everyday photography, portraits, zoom shots, social media content, and low-light shooting.

Over the course of this review, the CAMON 50 Ultra 5G became my primary camera for covering events, taking product photos, capturing everyday moments, and creating content for social media. Most of the images were taken using the default AI CAM mode, which does a good job balancing colors, exposure, and dynamic range without requiring much effort from the user.
Before discussing image quality, it's worth mentioning that TECNO has included a wide selection of shooting modes. Aside from the standard Photo mode, users get Portrait Mode, Super Night Mode, FlashSnap for fast-moving subjects, Ultra HD mode for full-resolution captures, Pro Mode for manual controls, Panorama, Long Exposure, Macro, Document Mode, and Aqua Mode for underwater photography. Video features include 4K recording, Dual Video, Live Photos, Slow Motion, Time-Lapse, and a dedicated Vlog Mode for content creators.
Main Camera
Most of the photos I captured during daytime walks, product shoots, and event coverage looked ready to share straight from the camera. Images contain plenty of detail, colors appear natural, and the camera does a good job balancing bright skies and darker shadow areas without making scenes look overly processed.
I particularly liked how the camera avoids overly aggressive color processing. Greens, blues, and skin tones generally look realistic, which means photos rarely require additional tweaking before posting online.
Focus acquisition is also reliable. Whether I was photographing food, products, people, or outdoor scenes, the camera locked focus quickly and produced consistent results.
The large sensor also helps create natural background separation when shooting close subjects, adding depth without relying entirely on software effects.
Telephoto Camera
The dedicated 3x telephoto camera ended up being the lens I reached for more often than expected.
Having a dedicated telephoto lens provides much more flexibility compared to relying solely on digital zoom. It allows you to get closer to subjects while maintaining impressive detail, making it useful for events, concerts, architecture, and street photography.
Portrait photography also benefits significantly from the telephoto lens. The longer focal length creates a more natural perspective, while subject separation looks cleaner and more realistic. Skin tones remain accurate, and edge detection generally performs well even in more challenging scenes.
After a few days, I found myself switching to the telephoto lens regularly, especially for portraits, stage performances, and subjects that were slightly farther away.
Ultra-Wide Camera
The 8MP ultra-wide camera is useful when you need to fit more into the frame, whether it's landscapes, large buildings, group photos, or tight indoor spaces.
In good lighting conditions, image quality is perfectly usable for social media and casual photography. Colors remain relatively consistent with the main camera, although detail levels are noticeably lower when zooming in.
This is also the camera most affected by lower lighting conditions. Images can become softer and show more noise compared to the main and telephoto cameras, which is fairly common for ultra-wide sensors in this category.
Night Photography
Low-light photography is where the Sony LYT-700C sensor and OIS system begin to show their strengths.
Evening shots around streets, restaurants, and city lights retained a good amount of detail while keeping noise reasonably controlled. Street lights and illuminated signs were handled well, with highlights staying under control instead of appearing blown out.
The camera's Night Mode is also effective without becoming overly aggressive. Images appear brighter than what your eyes naturally see, but not to the point where scenes look artificial.
OIS also makes handheld night photography more forgiving, reducing the chances of blurry photos when capturing scenes without a tripod.
Selfie Camera
On the front, TECNO includes a 50MP autofocus selfie camera, and it's one of the better selfie cameras I've used in this segment.
The autofocus system makes a noticeable difference, especially when taking group selfies or recording videos while moving around. Subjects remain sharp, and focus adjustments happen quickly when distances change.
Skin tones generally look natural, while facial details remain well preserved without excessive beautification effects.
Video Recording
The CAMON 50 Ultra 5G supports video recording at up to 4K resolution and offers several tools aimed at content creators. Video quality from the main camera is sharp, with good color reproduction and reliable exposure control.
Stabilization performs well enough for handheld clips, making it suitable for casual vlogging, social media content, and event coverage.
I also found Dual Video useful for situations where both the subject and the person recording need to appear on screen simultaneously. Combined with Vlog Mode and Live Photos, the phone offers plenty of creative options for users who regularly create content for TikTok, Facebook Reels, Instagram, and YouTube Shorts.
Camera Verdict
The camera system plays a major role in what makes the CAMON 50 Ultra 5G enjoyable to use. The main camera consistently delivers detailed and natural-looking photos, while the dedicated 3x telephoto lens provides added flexibility for portraits and zoom shots. While the ultra-wide camera doesn't quite match the quality of the main and telephoto sensors, especially in low-light conditions, it still comes in handy when a wider field of view is needed.

Battery and Charging
If there's one area where the CAMON 50 Ultra 5G consistently impressed me, it's battery life. Despite its slim 7.75mm profile and lightweight 181g body, TECNO managed to fit a massive 6500mAh battery inside.
In everyday use, battery life was excellent. My typical routine of taking photos, uploading content, browsing social media, replying to messages, streaming videos, and occasional gaming was enough to comfortably get through a full day with plenty of charge remaining. Users with lighter workloads can even expect more than two days of use on a single charge.
Charging is handled by a 45W Super Charge adapter. Because of the large battery capacity, a full charge takes around 1 hour and 30 minutes from empty. While it isn't the fastest charging system available today, a quick 15-minute top-up can recover roughly 25% to 30% of battery life, which is often enough for several more hours of use.
TECNO also includes Bypass Charging, which routes power directly to the phone during gaming rather than continuously charging the battery. This helps reduce heat and may contribute to better long-term battery health during extended gaming sessions.
Speaking of longevity, TECNO rates the battery for up to 1,800 charging cycles while retaining over 80% of its original capacity, offering better long-term durability than many conventional smartphone batteries.
The only notable omission is wireless charging. Overall, the CAMON 50 Ultra 5G delivers excellent battery endurance, practical charging speeds, and useful battery management features, making it a dependable device for heavy users and content creators alike.
