Xiaomi has officially unveiled the Xiaomi 18 Pro Max, bringing a new flagship experience centered on mobile photography, battery life, privacy, and a more distinctive design. It combines a large main display with a secondary screen on the rear, while Xiaomi's new hardware-level privacy technology is designed to help protect sensitive information from people viewing the phone from the side.
Xiaomi is also introducing the Xiaomi 18 Pro Max Transparent Special Edition, which gives the flagship a striking red transparent-style finish.
Design: Large Flagship With a Rear Display
The Xiaomi 18 Pro Max has a large premium design with a 6.9-inch display on the front and a prominent camera system on the rear. One of its most recognizable features is the 2.9-inch rear display, which is integrated into the camera module. The screen can be used for notifications, widgets, camera controls, and other functions. It can also serve as a viewfinder for taking selfies with the rear cameras.
The front uses extremely slim 0.99mm bezels, while the rear features a flat secondary screen integrated into the camera area. Xiaomi also uses Dragon Crystal Glass 3.0 and provides IP66, IP68, and IP69 protection against dust and water.
Xiaomi's Super Pixel Display 2.0 also introduces hardware-level privacy protection. The feature can narrow the viewing angle to make on-screen content harder for people nearby to see. Xiaomi has also added location-based triggers that can automatically protect sensitive content in certain situations.
Xiaomi 18 Pro Max Transparent Special Edition
The Xiaomi 18 Pro Max Transparent Special Edition gives the flagship a more distinctive appearance. It features a red transparent-style rear design created using a micron-level film process to produce a three-dimensional embossed effect. Matching wallpapers show a digital representation of the phone's internal components on both displays.
The package also includes matching transparent-red accessories, including the charging brick and data cable. The special edition retains the same internal hardware as the standard Pro Max.
Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6
The Xiaomi 18 Pro Max is among the first smartphones powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6, manufactured using a 2nm process. The chipset can reach speeds of up to 5GHz and is paired with an Adreno GPU. Memory options include 12GB or 16GB LPDDR5X RAM, while storage ranges from 256GB to 1TB using UFS 4.1.
Xiaomi also uses a circular cold-pump cooling system to help manage temperatures during demanding workloads. The phone runs Android 17 with HyperOS 4 and supports Xiaomi's latest AI features, including Super XiaoAI 2.0 in the Chinese version.
Dual 200MP Leica Camera System
Photography is one of the key highlights of the Xiaomi 18 Pro Max, which features a triple-camera system developed with Leica.
The setup includes a 200MP main camera, a 200MP periscope telephoto camera, and a 50MP ultra-wide camera. The main camera uses a large 1/1.28-inch Light Hunter 960 sensor, while the 200MP periscope telephoto uses a 1/1.56-inch sensor. For selfies and video calls, the phone comes with a 50MP front-facing camera.
The telephoto camera supports 3.2x optical zoom with a 75mm equivalent focal length and can focus as close as 12cm for macro shots. Meanwhile, the 50MP ultra-wide camera offers a 102-degree field of view, making it useful for landscapes, architecture, and group photos.
The Leica collaboration extends to the phone's imaging software, with Xiaomi's Legendary Moment system combining computational photography with different imaging styles.
For video, the Xiaomi 18 Pro Max can record up to 8K at 30fps and 4K at 120fps. It also supports HDR, Dolby Vision, LOG recording, and electronic image stabilization.
Large Silicon-Carbon Battery
Battery life is another major highlight of the Xiaomi 18 Pro Max. It comes with an 8,500mAh silicon-carbon battery, giving the flagship a substantial power reserve while maintaining its relatively slim design.
The phone supports 100W wired charging and 50W wireless charging, while 27W reverse charging lets it share power with compatible devices and accessories.
Xiaomi also says the battery is designed to retain at least 80% of its original capacity after 2,000 charging cycles, adding a focus on long-term battery durability.
