The trial took place at the Event Technical Centre (ETC), a mobile hub responsible for the behind-the-scenes race tech that keeps F1 running smoothly.
This partnership between Lenovo and F1 isn’t new. It’s part of a long-term collaboration focused on innovation and performance. But this test marks a major milestone: the first time Lenovo’s AI PC was put to work in one of the world’s most fast-paced and data-heavy environments—Formula 1’s race weekend operations.
Smarter Tech, Smarter Racing
F1’s Chief Technical and Engineering Officer, Roberto Dalla, shared how impressed the team was with Lenovo’s new AI laptop. The ThinkPad X9 Aura Edition includes features like Smart Modes, Smart Share, and Smart Care, which helped boost productivity and efficiency during the trial. And with Intel’s Lunar Lake platform and Copilot+, the device delivers both performance and energy savings—two things that matter deeply to Formula 1’s goal of becoming net zero carbon by 2030.
“In a sport where every second counts,” said Dalla, “these innovations allow our teams to process data faster, collaborate better, and stay focused on delivering a world-class broadcast experience for fans.”
Tested in the Heat of the Action
The trial was conducted during an F1 Sprint weekend, known for its intense schedule and tight turnaround. That made it the perfect testbed for the ThinkPad X9 Aura. According to Dr. Tolga Kurtoglu, Lenovo’s Chief Technology Officer, “This high-pressure environment really showcased what our AI PC can do—not just in race operations, but in content creation and storytelling.”
The ETC, where the laptop was used, acts as the nerve center for each race. It captures vital data and video feeds, which are then sent back to F1’s Media & Technology Centre in the UK for global broadcast. It’s a compact but critical system—and Lenovo’s devices are already an essential part of it, from servers and workstations to smartphones and tablets.

The new laptop brings in a fresh level of smart features tailored for professional use. With AI-assisted workflows, long battery life, and military-grade durability, it’s designed for real-world challenges—like those found trackside at a Grand Prix.
