Synology Finds Philippine Businesses Embracing AI, Despite Data Security Concerns

AI is quickly becoming part of how businesses work, from automating routine tasks to helping teams manage information and make decisions. But for many Philippine companies, adopting AI also raises a more basic question: how do you keep the data behind it secure?
Synology
A new Synology ASEAN survey found that more than 90% of Philippine respondents consider AI-ready infrastructure important to workflow efficiency and productivity. At the same time, 70% identified data security and privacy as a key challenge to AI adoption.
The findings were shared during the Synology Annual Media Event 2026, where the company discussed data infrastructure, cyber resilience and AI-powered productivity as businesses expand their use of AI.
The survey suggests that the conversation around AI is moving beyond the applications themselves. Businesses also need to consider where they store their data, how easily they can access it, how it moves between systems, and what happens when something goes wrong.

“AI creates value when it helps people do their work better and enables the business to respond more effectively to its customers,” said Antoine Yang, Southeast Asia Head at Synology. “Our focus is to help organizations sustain those gains as adoption grows, with data they can trust and a dependable path to recovery when disruption occurs.”
Data quality and availability remain among the practical issues businesses face. Around 47% of respondents cited these as challenges, while 40% said their data is scattered across different environments.
Nearly 40% also said they lack visibility into how third-party AI tools manage submitted information. For organizations handling customer records, internal documents, and other sensitive business information, that lack of visibility can make AI adoption more complicated.
Infrastructure choices are also reflecting the need for greater control. Around 74% of respondents said they favor on-premises or hybrid approaches, compared with only 9.9% who prioritize public cloud.
This does not necessarily mean businesses are moving away from cloud services. Instead, it points to continued interest in infrastructure models that give organizations more control over where critical data is stored and how it is managed while still allowing them to use cloud services where appropriate.
The survey also looked at confidence in recovering from ransomware. While 72.4% of respondents said they are confident in their ability to recover using protected backups, only 25.4% described themselves as very confident.
That distinction matters. Having backups is only part of a recovery strategy. Businesses also need to know that those backups can be restored and that critical services can be brought back online when an incident occurs.

“As businesses expand their data infrastructure, they also need confidence that essential services can recover when disruption occurs,” said Claire Huang, Philippines Country Manager at Synology.
Against this backdrop, Synology is focusing on three areas: scalable data infrastructure, cyber resilience and AI-powered productivity with greater control over business data.
Its 2026 portfolio includes the PAS7700, an active-active NVMe all-flash storage solution designed for mission-critical workloads, alongside new FS and RS series solutions. Synology Tiering and data reduction capabilities in DSM 7.4 are also aimed at helping organizations manage increasing data volumes more efficiently.
For backup and cyber resilience, ActiveProtect appliances provide centralized backup management, immutable data protection and automated isolation.
ActiveProtect Manager 2.0 expands support for Nutanix AHV and Proxmox VE, as well as Amazon EC2, Azure VM and Google Workspace. It also adds cross-platform recovery and expanded cloud recovery capabilities.
The DP5200 adds a compact 1U option to the ActiveProtect lineup, aimed at growing organizations and remote offices that need additional backup infrastructure without moving to a larger deployment.
Synology is also bringing AI into everyday business workflows through Synology Office Suite, ChatPlus and Meet. On the surveillance side, the DVA7400 adds AI-powered video search and analytics for on-premises environments.
The company also previewed scale-out storage and hybrid surveillance solutions for enterprise environments, pointing to a broader push toward infrastructure that can handle larger data volumes and increasingly distributed workloads.
For businesses considering AI, the survey highlights a fairly practical reality. Getting access to AI tools is becoming easier, but making sure the information behind those tools is accurate, available and protected remains a separate challenge.
“When businesses can trust how their data is managed and protected, they are better positioned to turn AI initiatives into lasting business results,” Claire Huang added.
As AI becomes more common in Philippine workplaces, the infrastructure supporting it will likely become just as important as the applications employees use every day. For businesses, that means looking not only at what AI can do, but also at how their data is stored, protected and recovered along the way.
