Design and Built Quality
The HONOR X5 Plus may be a budget-friendly device, but it doesn't compromise on design. With a sleek and modern look, it feels comfortable in the hand.

The choice of colors, including the eye-catching Cyan Lake and the classic Midnight Black, adds to its appeal. While its body is primarily constructed from plastic with a square-ish profile, it has a visually appealing quality.

At the back, a dual-camera configuration is housed within a sizable circular camera module, which features a slight camera bump. Good thing it comes with a protective case that safeguards it against scratches, providing added protection for both the device and its camera lenses.

The side-mounted fingerprint scanner ensures quick and secure access, while the volume rocker offers nice tactile feedback when used.

Positioned at the top, the SIM slot follows a hybrid setup, accommodating either two nano SIM cards or one nano SIM and a microSD card for additional storage needs.

At the base are the usual headphone jack for wired audio earbuds for a personalized listening experience, a Type-C port for charging and data transfer, a microphone, and a loudspeaker.

The X5 Plus manages to deliver a well-balanced and visually appealing design, showing that affordability doesn't necessitate compromising on look and built quality.

Display and Audio Quality
My hands-on experience with the HONOR X5 Plus display is nothing special but overall nice. The device's 6.56-inch water-drop display with Dynamic Dimming technology effectively mimics natural light, reducing eye fatigue during prolonged use—an enhancement to the overall user experience.

The 90Hz refresh rate delivers smoother visuals and improved responsiveness. Watching videos on the HD+ TFT LCD screen, with its 1612 x 720 pixel resolution, is a good experience. The vibrant colors and commendable sharpness make it versatile for daily tasks and multimedia use.

Gaming on the X5 Plus has been enjoyable, thanks to the 90Hz refresh rate, which ensures smooth graphics and transitions. Additionally, the device's viewing angles are also good, maintaining excellent visibility, and making it ideal for content sharing or multiplayer gaming.

Overall, the X5 Plus offers a good display experience thanks to Dynamic Dimming, a 90Hz refresh rate, and vibrant HD+ resolution. Making it a solid choice for multimedia consumption, gaming, and daily tasks, while its viewing angles further enhance its appeal in the budget-friendly segment.

Performance
It's powered by the MediaTek Helio G36 octa-core chipset with 4GB of RAM plus an Honor RAM Turbo. The X5 Plus surprised me with its performance. Everyday tasks and multitasking were met with a level of smoothness and responsiveness that exceeded expectations for a budget-friendly device. Apps and navigating the UI proved to be swift, eliminating any frustration associated with lag or stutter.

Gaming on the X5 Plus was a commendable experience, thanks to the capable processor. Games ran smoothly, with graphics rendering well and transitions between scenes remaining fluid. The device handled casual gaming admirably, making it a reliable companion for long commutes.

For daily use, the X5 Plus excelled, offering a seamless and efficient experience for routine tasks. Whether it was browsing the web, managing emails, or using various apps, the device handled it easily.

The device's 4GB of RAM, while generally providing a smooth user experience, did reveal limitations when pushing the device to its extremes, especially with resource-intensive apps or heavy multitasking. It's in such scenarios that you might notice slight shutters or delays. However, for most users engaging in typical day-to-day activities, it works just fine.

In terms of storage, it only has 64GB (48GB user-accessible) of internal storage, but the option to expand it up to 1TB via a microSD card is a welcome feature. The HONOR RAM Turbo feature also played a crucial role in optimizing performance, ensuring that the device operates at its peak efficiency.

Overall, the HONOR X5 Plus is a commendable, budget-friendly device that delivers solid performance across various usage scenarios. Making it a reliable companion for everyday tasks, gaming, and multimedia consumption. While it does have limitations in resource-intensive scenarios, its overall performance and feature set make it a noteworthy contender in its price range.

Camera Systems
The dual rear camera setup, with a 50-megapixel primary lens (f/1.8) and a depth camera (f/2.4) with a 2-megapixel sensor, alongside the LED flash and 10x digital zoom, makes it a good camera system in its price category. The camera can capture clear and detailed photos during the day, but it has some challenges when shooting at night.

HONOR X5 Plus - Adobotech

In well-lit conditions, the camera produced commendable results, capturing good colors with noteworthy details. The 10x digital zoom provided flexibility for zoomed-in shots. However, when faced with low-light environments, the camera revealed its limitations. Nighttime shots, while usable, lacked the sharpness and clarity seen in daylight, with noticeable noise and a reduction in detail.

The camera app comes equipped with a variety of shooting modes for creativity and versatility. Portrait mode, featuring beauty and bokeh settings, allowed pleasing portraits. Time-lapse mode proved handy for capturing dynamic scenes, while HDR Photo mode ensured balanced exposures even in challenging lighting situations. The Capture Smiles feature added a touch of fun, automatically snapping a photo when smiles were detected.

The 5-megapixel front camera is good enough for taking selfies and video calls with good resolution images. The front camera's performance, paired with the different shooting modes, made shooting and sharing moments a more enjoyable experience

Overall, the HONOR X5 Plus offers a commendable camera system that aligns well with its budget-friendly price.

Battery and Charging
Another standout feature of the X5 Plus is its substantial 5,200mAh battery, which delivers good battery life. It can support up to 17.8 hours of video playback and 35 hours of audio calls on a single charge. In everyday usage, a full charge lasts the device for an entire day of casual activities, including social media browsing, photo and video capture, gaming, music listening, web browsing, and continuous social media updates throughout the day.

In terms of charging, the 10W HONOR charger, while functional, doesn't provide fast charging speeds for the X5 Plus. Charging the battery can take a bit longer compared to more powerful chargers. For quicker charging capabilities, it's best to consider using a 25W or higher charger, as it can significantly reduce the charging time for the X5 Plus battery.

Pros
Affordable Price
Sleek and modern design
Display with Dynamic Dimming technology
Smooth Performance
Ample Storage
Capable Camera System
Large Battery Capacity

Cons
Plastic Built
Night Photography Limitations
Slow Charging Speed
Moderate RAM

Verdict
The HONOR X5 Plus is a good budget-friendly device with a nice display, good performance for everyday use, and a capable camera system for well-lit scenarios. The large battery is great for users who prioritize extended usage. However, potential buyers should be aware of its limitations in night photography, limited RAM for intensive tasks, and the consideration of using a faster charger. Overall, the HONOR X5 Plus offers a well-rounded package, making it a solid choice for those looking for a reliable and affordable smartphone.
