Apple Pay in the Philippines: How to Set It Up and Pay Using Your iPhone or Apple Watch

Apple Pay is finally available in the Philippines, giving Apple users a faster and more secure way to pay using their iPhone, Apple Watch, iPad, or Mac. Instead of pulling out your physical debit or credit card, you can now store an eligible card in the Wallet app and make contactless payments with just a tap.

Whether you're paying for groceries, dining at a restaurant, shopping at the mall, or making purchases online, Apple Pay makes checkout quick and convenient while keeping your payment information protected. 

If you're new to Apple Pay, here's everything you need to know to start using it.

What is Apple Pay?

Apple Pay is Apple's digital wallet and contactless payment service. It allows you to add eligible debit and credit cards to the Wallet app and use your Apple devices to pay in stores, within apps, and on websites that support Apple Pay.

Unlike a physical card, Apple Pay doesn't share your actual card number with merchants. Instead, each transaction is protected using encrypted payment credentials and must be authorized with Face ID, Touch ID, or your device passcode.

Supported Banks in the Philippines

At launch, Apple Pay supports eligible Visa and Mastercard debit and credit cards issued by the following banks:

• GoTyme Bank
• Metrobank
• UnionBank
• China Bank

Apple has also confirmed that support for more Philippine banks will be added in the future.

Which Apple Devices Support Apple Pay?

Apple Pay works across multiple Apple devices, although the features vary depending on the device.

• iPhone – Pay in stores, within apps, and on supported websites.
• Apple Watch – Make contactless payments without taking out your iPhone.
• iPad – Use Apple Pay for purchases in supported apps and on websites using Safari.
• Mac – Complete online purchases securely through Safari.

How to Set Up Apple Pay

Setting up Apple Pay only takes a few minutes.

1. Open the Wallet app on your iPhone.
2. Tap the "+" button in the upper-right corner.
3. Select Debit or Credit Card.
4. Scan your card or enter the details manually.
5. Complete the verification process required by your bank.
6. Once approved, your card will be added to Apple Wallet and is ready to use.

If you own an Apple Watch, you can also add the same card through the Watch app on your iPhone by going to Wallet & Apple Pay.

How to Pay with Apple Pay on Your iPhone

After adding your card to Apple Wallet, paying with your iPhone only takes a few seconds.

1. Double-press the Side button on your iPhone.
2. Authenticate using Face ID, Touch ID, or your passcode.
3. Hold the top of your iPhone near the contactless payment terminal.
4. Wait until you see "Done" with a checkmark on the screen.

If you've added multiple cards to Apple Wallet, simply swipe to select the card you want to use before authenticating.

How to Pay with Apple Pay on Apple Watch

You can also use Apple Pay directly from your Apple Watch.

1. Double-press the Side button.
2. Your default payment card will appear automatically. If you've added multiple cards, swipe to select a different one.
3. Hold your Apple Watch near the contactless payment terminal.
4. Wait for the gentle vibration and confirmation tone to indicate that your payment has been accepted.

It's a convenient way to pay when your iPhone isn't in your hand.

Where Can You Use Apple Pay?
Apple Pay works anywhere that accepts contactless Visa or Mastercard payments. Simply look for the contactless payment symbol or the Apple Pay logo at the checkout counter. You can also use Apple Pay when shopping online through Safari or when making purchases in supported iPhone and iPad apps, allowing you to check out without entering your card details each time.

Is Apple Pay Safe?

Apple Pay is designed with security and privacy in mind. Your actual card number is never shared with merchants or stored on your device. Instead, Apple Pay uses a unique encrypted payment token for every transaction. Every purchase must also be authorized using Face ID, Touch ID, or your device passcode, adding another layer of protection against unauthorized use.
