The realme 16T 5G is now available in the Philippines, with its 8000mAh battery as its biggest draw. But a large battery isn't the only thing to consider when choosing a new smartphone.
On paper, the realme looks impressive, but its compromises become more apparent once you look beyond the headline specifications. At its current price, the bigger question is whether those trade-offs actually matter in everyday use and whether the phone offers the right balance of features, performance, and value for its target audience.
Here are five things to know before buying the realme 16T 5G.
1. The 8000mAh Battery Is Its Biggest Advantage
The realme 16T has an 8000mAh battery, with a rated capacity of 7780mAh. It supports 45W SUPERVOOC fast charging, bypass charging, and reverse charging. realme claims up to three days of battery life based on its laboratory testing. The company also says the battery can retain more than 80% of its capacity after seven years under its stated testing conditions.
For people who spend long hours on their phones, the extra capacity can be useful. Streaming, social media, gaming, navigation, and mobile data use can all consume a lot of power, so having more battery capacity gives you more room before reaching for a charger.
The phone can also charge other devices through reverse charging, but the output is limited to 10W (5V/2A). That's standard output rather than fast charging, so it's better suited for topping up smaller devices and accessories than quickly charging another smartphone.
The trade-off is weight. The phone measures 166.4 × 78.2 × 8.8mm and weighs 224 grams. That's understandable for a phone with this much battery, but it's worth considering if you prefer a lighter device.
2. The Display Is Large, But It's Only HD+ LCD
The realme 16T has a 6.8-inch HD+ LCD display with a 1570 × 720 resolution, up to 144Hz refresh rate, and up to 1200 nits HBM brightness. It uses Panda-1681 glass for protection. The high refresh rate should make scrolling and supported games feel smoother, but the bigger consideration is the panel itself.
It's HD+ LCD, not AMOLED.
At this price, buyers can find phones with AMOLED and Full HD+ displays, which generally offer sharper images, deeper blacks, and better contrast. The lower resolution is also easier to notice on a large 6.8-inch screen, particularly when reading text or viewing detailed photos.

3. The Dimensity 6300 Is an Older Chipset
The realme 16T is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 6300, a 6nm 5G chipset introduced in 2024. It's still capable of handling everyday tasks such as messaging, social media, browsing, streaming, and regular multitasking. The phone also comes with up to 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, depending on the configuration, with microSD support.
However, the Dimensity 6300 is an older platform for a smartphone being sold in 2026. MediaTek's newer Dimensity 6400 is the successor in this segment. That doesn't make the Dimensity 6300 unusable, but buyers looking for newer hardware or stronger performance should compare other phones before making a decision.
For gaming, realme adds a 5300mm² AirFlow VC cooling system and GT Boost Engine, with the company claiming stable 60FPS performance in mainstream games. Still, this isn't a high-performance gaming chipset. If gaming is your main reason for upgrading, there are better options to consider.
4. The Camera Setup Is Fairly Basic
The realme 16T has a 50MP f/1.8 autofocus main camera paired with a 2MP monochrome camera. A 16MP front camera handles selfies. The rear camera supports video recording of up to 1080p at 60fps, while the front camera supports up to 1080p at 30fps. Slow motion, time-lapse, cinematic video, and dual-view video are also available.
The main limitation is the lack of an ultra-wide camera. The 2MP monochrome sensor doesn't provide the same flexibility as having another useful focal length.
For everyday photos, the main camera should handle the basics. But if you regularly shoot landscapes, architecture, or large groups, a phone with an ultra-wide camera may be a better fit. One unusual addition is the Selfie Mirror, which lets you use the rear camera for selfies while checking the framing through the built-in mirror.
5. Durability Is a Strong Point
The realme 16T comes with maximum IP69 Pro water and dust protection and military-grade shock resistance. It also carries IP66, IP68, IP69, and IP69K ratings, along with MIL-STD-810H certification.
That gives the phone an advantage for users who spend a lot of time outdoors or simply want additional protection against dust, water, and accidental drops. The ratings don't make the phone indestructible, though. Water resistance can also decrease with normal wear and tear, so these protections are best treated as an added layer of durability.

The realme 16T 5G is fairly straightforward. Its 8000mAh battery is the main reason to buy it, while the rest of the hardware comes with some compromises.
The battery makes sense for people who spend long hours on their phones or regularly find themselves away from a charger. The 144Hz refresh rate, 5G connectivity, expandable storage, and durability ratings are also useful additions.
But buyers should be aware of what they're giving up. The HD+ LCD display instead of AMOLED, older Dimensity 6300 chipset, the basic camera setup, the lack of an ultra-wide camera, and no NFC are all worth considering.
At its current promotional price, the realme 16T can make sense if battery life is your priority. If you care more about the display, gaming performance, or camera capabilities, it's worth looking at other options before making a decision.
