Dual Wireless Connectivity
The MagBadge uses both Bluetooth and Wi-Fi to communicate with a compatible smartphone. Bluetooth handles functions such as initial pairing, remote controls, audio commands, and other lower-bandwidth interactions.

For rear-camera mirroring, the device uses a Wi-Fi Direct connection to provide the bandwidth required to transmit the camera preview to the badge’s OLED display. The USB-C port on the MagBadge is used for charging its 450mAh battery.

Is the MagBadge the Next Smartphone Companion?
The more interesting question surrounding the MagBadge is not simply what it can do, but where this type of accessory could fit into the smartphone experience. We’ve already seen smartphone makers explore new forms of smartphone companions, from OPPO’s Bubble concept to Meta Muse, while TECNO takes a more practical, wearable approach with the MagBadge.

The difference is that the MagBadge is designed to stay physically close to the user. It can work as a camera viewfinder, remote control, digital display, and small everyday tool while the smartphone remains in a pocket or positioned elsewhere.
