The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) and the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) have introduced the Paleng-QR Ph initiative in Quezon City, partnering with GCash, the country's leading finance super app, to promote digital payment adoption nationwide.

Through Paleng-QR Ph, market vendors and tricycle drivers at Project 4 Public Market in P. Tuazon can now conveniently transact with customers using GCash QR codes.

The launch event, attended by BSP deputy director Mynard Bryan Mojica, DILG undersecretary for barangay affairs Felicito Valmocino, Quezon City mayor Joy Belmonte-Alimurung, and other key figures, emphasizes the program's goal to transition consumers from cash to digital transactions and enhance financial literacy.

Mayor Belmonte-Alimurung encourages more participation from vendors and entrepreneurs, highlighting the convenience and security of cashless transactions through GCash. The initiative also facilitates easier disbursement of aid and tax payments for constituents via the GCash app.

Quezon City, recognized for its digital empowerment efforts, was honored with the Excellence in Digital Empowerment Award at the GCash Digital Excellence Awards in 2023. Currently, 87% of vendors in the city accept GCash QR payments, with 65% actively using the service.

GCash, committed to its "Finance for All" vision, collaborates with partners to expand Paleng-QR Ph nationally. It has supported launches in various cities across the country, prioritizing merchant onboarding and ensuring safety, security, and convenience for users.
