Fairphone Gen. 6+: A Repairable Smartphone With More Performance
Fairphone is expanding its modular smartphone lineup with the Fairphone (Gen. 6+), a more powerful version of its latest Android device. The new model retains the company’s focus on sustainability and user serviceability while upgrading the processor and memory.

Fairphone Gen. 6+ Features
Fairphone is also bringing the device directly to consumers in the United States, where it is available through the company’s official store and Amazon.

More Performance
The Gen. 6+ uses the Snapdragon 7s Gen 4, replacing the Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 found in the standard Fairphone Gen. 6. It is paired with 12GB of DDR5 RAM, compared with 8GB on the regular model. The additional memory provides more headroom for multitasking, while 256GB of internal storage provides room for apps, photos, and other files. A microSD slot supports cards of up to 2TB, giving users the option to expand storage without replacing the device.

LTPO AMOLED Display
The phone features a 6.31-inch LTPO AMOLED display with a 1116 × 2484-pixel resolution and 431ppi. Its adaptive refresh rate ranges from 10Hz to 120Hz, allowing the panel to lower its refresh rate for static content and increase it when smoother motion is needed.

Brightness can reach up to 1,400 nits in auto mode, which should help when using the phone outdoors.
The Gen. 6+ measures 156.57 × 73.28 × 9.6mm and weighs around 193 grams. Its thicker profile is one of the trade-offs of having an accessible internal design.

A Battery You Can Replace Yourself
The Gen. 6+ uses a 4,415mAh removable battery, allowing owners to swap it without sending the phone to a repair center. Accessing the battery requires a Torx T5 screwdriver, with no heat gun or extensive adhesive removal involved.

Fairphone rates the battery for more than 1,000 charging cycles while retaining at least 80% of its nominal capacity, and claims up to 53 hours of battery life, depending on usage. This makes battery replacement a practical way to extend the phone’s usable life as the cell eventually ages.

12 Replaceable Modules
Beyond the battery, the Gen. 6+ has 12 user-replaceable modules. These include the display, cameras, USB-C port, speaker, and other components. Owners can purchase individual spare parts and install them using basic tools. This is particularly useful for components that are vulnerable to accidental damage or normal wear.

The approach differs from many current smartphones, where batteries and internal parts are commonly secured with adhesives and repairs can require specialized equipment.

Main Camera
Photography is handled by a 50MP Sony Lytia 700c main camera with optical image stabilization, paired with a 13MP ultra-wide camera offering a 120-degree field of view. The system supports 4K video recording, while a 32MP front camera with autofocus handles selfies, video calls, and front-facing video. The camera modules can also be replaced independently if they become damaged.

Built for Long-Term Software Support
The Gen. 6+ ships with Android 16 and is promised six major Android OS upgrades, with security updates and support extending through 2033. Fairphone also provides a five-year hardware warranty, giving buyers additional coverage beyond the typical smartphone warranty period.

This extended support is an important part of the device’s proposition. Hardware that can be serviced remains more useful when the software continues to receive updates and security fixes.

Sustainability Is Part of the Hardware
Fairphone says more than half of the device’s physical mass comes from fair or recycled materials. The company also highlights responsibly sourced materials, including fair-trade gold, along with efforts to improve working conditions and wages across its supply chain.

Fairphone continues to support initiatives such as the Fair Cobalt Alliance, which focuses on improving conditions for cobalt miners. Rather than treating sustainability solely as a materials issue, the company combines responsible sourcing with a design intended to keep the handset in use for longer.

Privacy-Focused /e/OS Option
The Gen. 6+ is also available with Murena’s /e/OS, providing an alternative for users who want to reduce their dependence on Google’s services. The privacy-focused operating system minimizes Google’s tracking and services while maintaining compatibility with Android applications. This gives buyers the option to choose between the standard Android experience and a more privacy-oriented software environment.

IP55 Protection and a Thicker Design
The Gen. 6+ carries an IP55 rating, providing protection against dust and water jets but not full submersion. That is below the IP68 rating found on many flagship smartphones, so users should take additional care around pools, deep water, and other situations where the phone could be submerged.

Its 9.6mm thickness is another noticeable compromise. Rather than pursuing an ultra-thin sealed chassis, Fairphone has left the device accessible for maintenance and component replacement.

How Does It Compare With Other Mid-Range Phones?
The Fairphone Gen. 6+ takes a different route from conventional mid-range smartphones. Other models at similar prices may offer faster charging, more advanced camera hardware, thinner bodies, or higher water-resistance ratings.

Fairphone instead puts greater emphasis on serviceability and longevity. The removable battery, accessible components, expandable storage, five-year warranty, and software support through 2033 all contribute to a phone designed for a longer ownership cycle.

The Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 and 12GB of RAM also give the Gen. 6+ a stronger hardware foundation than the previous configuration, helping it remain capable as applications and operating systems become more demanding.

Fairphone Gen. 6+ Price and Availability
The Fairphone Gen. 6+ is priced at €649 in Europe. In the United States, it costs $649.99 and is sold unlocked with support for major networks including T-Mobile and AT&T. The US launch is significant for Fairphone because consumers can purchase the device directly rather than relying on imports.

For buyers in the Philippines, Fairphone does not currently have the same official retail presence as brands such as Samsung, Xiaomi, HONOR, OPPO, vivo, or realme. Local pricing and availability will therefore depend on importers and third-party sellers like Ubuy Philippines.

A Different Approach to Smartphones
The Fairphone Gen. 6+ puts serviceability ahead of an ultra-thin design and the constant push toward flagship-level specifications. Its thicker body and IP55 rating are compromises, but the trade-off gives owners greater control over maintenance. For buyers looking beyond the usual upgrade cycle, the Gen. 6+ offers a practical alternative: a smartphone designed to be used longer, serviced when necessary, and supported for years.
