Huawei has announced the Huawei MatePad and Huawei MatePad T10, updated versions of the MatePad tablets. Huawei Philippines generously loaned us a Huawei MatePad, and now here's our review.

Design
This Huawei tablet has the DNA of the MatePad series, it comes in a premium look and is built with its midnight gray color and matte coating which is a fingerprint magnet so it's a good idea to wipe it with a clean cloth from time to time to keep it look new.

For a tablet with a 10-inch screen of 245.20 mm x 154.96 mm x 7.45 mm it looks compact, slim, and stylish, it's also lightweight at only 460g making it easy to use.

The back is straightforward with the Huawei logo at the center and the dual camera on the corner. The buttons' placement is nice, and it's easy to access in landscape or portrait mode.

There is no fingerprint sensor, but it does support face-unlock and standard PIN, and password for unlocking. It would have been better if has at least an on-screen fingerprint scanner.

This tablet boasts Wi-Fi 6, and supports 160MHz channel bandwidth, on which it supports a maximum speed of 2,400Mbps for high-speed download. it has a slot for microSD card slot that supports up to 512GB capacity. Overall this tablet looks sleek and premium.

Display
The MatePad boasts a 10.4-inch Full HD+ IPS display with 2K pixel resolution at 224pixel per inch and it looks crisp, colors are great. The bezels are noticeable on all sides but not really intrusive and it makes that display looks larger.

The display settings feature Natural Tone, and Colour Temperature control choices are default, warm, and cool temperature. It also has eBook Mode if you want to relax your eye while reading digital books. It also supports Dark mode system-wide, and Eye comfort to filter blue light to reduce eye fatigue.

The screen has great colors, and the brightness level is sufficient, so it can be used outside even when the sun is shining brightly. Watching films on Netflix is fun because of the cinematic aspect ratio, and playing games is more immersive since it provides more details on the game.

Although the display is not AMOLED, the 2K resolution, 16:9.6 aspect ratio, and 84 percent screen-to-body ratio are sufficient to enjoy using this tablet as a primary device for video consumption, gaming, and even work-related tasks.

Performance
This tablet is powered by Kirin 820 chipset with up to 2.36GHz clock speed, It's paired with Mali-G57 for graphics, and has 4GB of RAM and up to 128GB of internal storage, as well as a 7,250mAh battery.

The Kirin 820 chipset includes one large and three mid-sized Cortex-A76 cores running at a frequency up to 2.36GHz and four small Cortex-A55 cores, for a smooth experience when the device is running high-demand apps or when the user is multi-tasking.

This tablet is suitable for common work-related tasks, and it can effortlessly multitask and switch between apps quickly. Surfing the web in a portrait mode is particularly convenient since it reduces page scrolling and allows easy zooming, which is something you can't do on a standard laptop.

It's also a great tablet for online schooling because it has a capable front-facing camera and can multitask. It also supports a stylus that you can use if you want to draw and create your own masterpiece. Also, add a wireless keyboard and you've got a portable workstation you can take anywhere.

In terms of gaming, this tablet is capable, and racing games like Asphalt 9 look incredible, with no latency or shutter-on action moments, making the gaming experience even more intense. Playing first-person shooting games like Call of Duty is excellent, the wide display makes it easier to see targets, and the controls are responsive to touch, giving it an advantage over playing games on a smartphone.

Note: Call of Duty Mobile is not yet available on App Gallery, but APK can be downloaded via APK Pure and can be side-loaded, it does run well even without the Google services. There are still a lot of apps/games not yet ported on Huawei's App Gallery, but its lists are growing everyday.

The sound quality is also amazing on this tablet, the high quad-channel speaker system enables the audio output to come with deeper bass and higher volume. It supports HUAWEI Histen 6.1, which features an equalizer and a bass booster combined, these features help optimize the audio listening experience and it also delivers 3D spatial sounds to offer an immersive experience.

For wireless connectivity, the HUAWEI MatePad is equipped with Wi-Fi 6, which supports 160MHz channel bandwidth, with a maximum speed of 2,400Mbps now which is fast, specially if you are downloading large files, and streaming HD videos.

One of the notable features is HUAWEI SHARE which supports the Multi-screen Collaboration feature. It has Drag-and-drop file transfers. it's easy to use to drag and drop files (images, documents, and text) from the smartphone to the tablet.

MeeTime is a great way to use video chat between Hauwei devices it supports up to 1080p@30fps video calls using the 8MP wide-angle front camera and uses IA to enhance the video quality between devices to ensure a smooth video call experience.

Another nice feature is the multi-window support, which makes multitasking a breeze. Since it has a wide display, it's easy to place two programs side by side in landscape mode, which is great while doing research. Simply place the word app on one side and the browser on the other for reference.

The HUAWEI MatePad also features a Kids Corner, it features an app limiter it's an option for parents to add exemptions to app limits. It also has App Lock where parents can add passwords to certain apps so that kids won't have access or need permission to use it.

Battery
The Huawei MatePad packs a massive 7250mAh battery, it's impressive how they fit a large battery with its slim body. In terms of usage, we're able to get around 10 hours of screen time which consists of mostly watching Netflix, gaming, browsing, and doing work-related research.

Charging using the supplied 10 V/2.25A charger takes about less than 3 hours, which is not bad considering it has a large capacity battery.

Verdict
There are few manufacturers to pick from when it comes to Android tablets, and the Huawei Tablet is a fantastic option if you want a robust tablet that can keep up with your digital requirements. This table features a great 10.4-inch Full HD+ display that is ideal not just for multimedia but also for expressing your creativity with the M Pencil (not included). In terms of performance, the Kirin 820 processor with dual-band WiFi 6 can handle multitasking and gaming without lag. The Huawei Matepad is a little expensive, but it's one of the finest midrange Android tablets for work and pleasure.

The new generation Huawei MatePad is priced at ₱18,999 and it is now available in all Huawei Concept Stores, official online stores, and flagship stores on Shopee and Lazada.
