Apple MacBook Pro
Apple has unveiled its new MacBook Pro with a PROLED XDR Display, bringing OLED technology and touchscreen support to MacBooks for the first time. The new 14-inch and 16-inch models feature Apple’s M5 Pro and M5 Max chips, enhanced on-device AI capabilities, and up to 24 hours of battery life.

Announced on October 28, 2026, the new models feature a redesigned display, a thinner, lighter chassis, and new ways to interact with macOS. Apple is positioning the laptops for professionals working in video production, photography, 3D design, software development, and other demanding workloads.

PROLED XDR Display
The new PROLED XDR display uses tandem OLED technology, combining two self-illuminating pixel layers to produce deep blacks, bright highlights, and improved image clarity.

The display supports up to 2,000 nits of peak HDR and SDR brightness, a 10,000,000:1 contrast ratio, and ProMotion adaptive refresh rates ranging from 10Hz to 120Hz. It also supports P3 and Adobe RGB color spaces, making it suitable for HDR video editing, photography, color grading, and print design.

An antireflective coating improves visibility in bright environments, while an optional nano-texture finish further reduces glare and reflections.

Touchscreen and Dynamic Island
For the first time, Mac users can interact directly with the display using touch gestures. They can scroll through webpages, pinch to zoom, move content between applications, draw on the screen, and manipulate 3D models.

The touchscreen works alongside the existing keyboard and trackpad. Developers can also optimize their applications for touch, while compatible creative software from Adobe, Maxon, Blackmagic Design, and other developers can offer additional touch-based controls.

Dynamic Island also comes to the Mac, providing quick access to information and controls, including calls, music playback, AirDrop requests, and Live Activities.

M5 Pro and M5 Max Performance
Apple’s M5 Pro and M5 Max chips power the new models, bringing faster processing, graphics capabilities, and on-device AI acceleration.

The M5 Pro configuration offers up to an 18-core CPU and a 20-core GPU, while the M5 Max features an 18-core CPU and up to a 40-core GPU. The M5 Pro targets demanding workloads such as software development, scientific computing, and video editing, while the M5 Max is designed for complex 3D rendering, visual effects, AI development, and 8K video post-production.

Configurations support up to 128GB of unified memory and up to 16TB of storage. Apple says users can run large language models locally, allowing supported AI workloads to run directly on the device.

Thinner Design, Battery Life, and Audio
Apple has redesigned the chassis to make both models thinner and lighter. The 14-inch version weighs approximately 3 pounds, while the 16-inch model weighs around 4 pounds.

Battery life reaches up to 24 hours, according to Apple. The laptops also feature an enhanced six-speaker sound system with 50 percent deeper bass, Spatial Audio with Dolby Atmos, studio-quality microphones, and a 12MP Center Stage camera with Desk View.

Connectivity includes three Thunderbolt 5 ports, HDMI, an SDXC card slot, MagSafe 3, and a headphone jack. Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6 are also supported. M5 Pro configurations support up to three external displays, while M5 Max models support up to four.

macOS 27 and Sustainability
The new models run macOS 27, which introduces improvements to system responsiveness, file browsing, Spotlight search, Safari, Photos, Mail, Maps, Notes, and Podcasts. Apple also highlights its environmental efforts. The laptops use recycled aluminum in their enclosures, recycled cobalt in their batteries, and recycled tantalum in multiple capacitors. Apple continues to work toward carbon neutrality across its entire footprint by 2030.
